Maya Karin’s Tweet On Youngster Who Couldn’t Reply In English Sparks Conversation

If you follow Maya Karin on Twitter, or if you've been active on Twitterverse in the past couple of days, you would know about the controversy that the actress created in her latest tweet.

Several days ago, she voiced out about the poor state of English in Malaysia and received brickbats from netizens.

I asked a little girl yesterday at my library talk in Terengganu. “How old are you?” *senyap.“How old are you?” *senyap again. So I changed it to “Adik umur berapa tahun?” Terus jawab “10tahun”Think about it. @fromKMR @niknazmi @maszlee

While some netizens couldn’t agree more with Maya’s tweet, some said her words were degrading youngsters who could not speak English.

After all, English is not everyone's first language, especially here in Malaysia.

She later explained that it wasn't her intention to ridicule anyone's intelligence, she was only focusing on the quality of education and the confidence of our young students, as reported by The Star.
