Michelle Yeoh to Star in New 'Star Trek' TV Show

The story of Discovery is set 10 years before the events of the original 1966 series and is separate from the timeline of the feature films. Discovery explores a previously mentioned event from the history of Star Trek while following the crew of the USS Discovery.

Michelle Yeoh stars as the series' lead character, Number One. She serves as lieutenant commander aboard the Discovery. The decision to make her the lieutenant commander instead of the starship captain, like previous Star Trek series' protagonists, was made "to see a character from a different perspective on the starship". She will be referred to as 'Number One' in the series and her name will be ultimately revealed before the end of the first season.
