What is it with celebrities and their blatant disregard of the rules?

A couple of weeks ago, Hollywood celeb Kim Kardashian came under heavy fire for posting spoilers for 'Spider-Man: No Way Home':

Closer to home, a local celeb did almost the exact same thing.

Not a smart move

Ameera Khan has drawn the ire of netizens and potentially landed herself in trouble for recording a snippet of a movie in the cinema recently.

The 21-year-old, who is the younger sister of local actress Neelofa, was given a sneak preview of the upcoming movie 'The House Of Gucci' starring Lady Gaga, Jared Leto and Adam Driver.

And because celebrities feel the need to share everything they do on social media, Ameera did just that as she recorded a couple of scenes from the movie and uploaded them onto her Instagram account as her Stories.

Netizens quickly criticised her actions, as the movie is not scheduled to be released in Malaysia until 3 February.

There were also those who want the authorities to take action against the social media personality as recording snippets of a movie in the cinema is against the law.

A Twitter user then took matters into her own hands by raising the issue to the cinema operator.

"Hi @GSCinemas, why is this allowed in your cinemas? And also why people still do this?," @ayshardzn wrote in a tweet.

Golden Screen Cinemas acknowledged the complaint, saying that they take the matter seriously and further revealed that they have reported the incident to the rights owner, United International Pictures, for further action.

While we are not sure if it's going to be just a slap on the wrist for Ameera (because she's a celeb, duh!), but those who are found guilty of recording snippets of movies in the cinema can be fined up to RM100,000 or jailed for a maximum of five years, or both, under Section 43A of the Copyright Act 1987.

Well, let this be a lesson for all of us out there: don't ever record videos in the cinema because 1) nobody likes spoilers and 2) it is definitely against the law.

Ameera Khan sure learnt that the hard way.
