‘One Cent Thief’ Series Amongst 11 Astro Shows & Talent Nominated at ContentAsia Awards

This writer remembers watching a lot of Western cartoons and movies growing up, but Asian content has exploded globally like never before and the 4th annual ContentAsia Awards celebrates just that. The awards highlight content and talent achievements from multiple platforms across the Asia region and…*drumroll please* the nominations have been announced.

Astro's productions and its talents were nominated for a total of 11 awards in eight categories at the awards including Best Drama series for ‘One Cent Thief’, the highly celebrated Astro Shaw original series based on the real-life story of a former banker who allegedly stole millions from the bank.

The 123 nominations across 24 categories in this year’s event include regional and domestic drama series, telemovies, as well as entertainment, factual, current affairs, kids, and talent categories. Talent from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand are up for the awards.

Winners will be announced on 24 August 2023 at the 2023 ContentAsia Awards gala event, at The Athenee Hotel Bangkok, Thailand. The ceremony will also be live streamed on ContentAsia’s Facebook page.

“The quality of Asia’s original production is soaring as a result of concerted effort and commitment by producers to serve regional and international streaming platforms, as well as targeting domestic audiences with authentic Asian stories and storytelling. We are honoured to be able to recognise and shine a spotlight on the amazing talent and works that we have in Asia,” said ContentAsia Awards’ President, Janine Stein.

A record 500 entries from across the region were received this year and more than 80 jury members from across Asia, as well as the UK and U.S, made their top picks. This included Malaysian Mee Fung Lee, Chief of PIK Film, a Malaysia-based Distribution and Content Agency with a solid portfolio of content brands with interests in Asia Pacific.

• Shukri Yahaya as Syed Azril in “Andai Itu Takdirnya” (MEASAT Broadcast Network Systems Sdn Bhd, Malaysia)

4. Best Supporting Actor in a TV Programme/Series *New category*

• Naim Daniel as Ayam in “Projek: High Council” (Astro Shaw Sdn Bhd, Malaysia)

5. Best Asian Comedy Programme

• “Debunk”(MEASAT Broadcast Network Systems Sdn Bhd, Malaysia)

• “Palatao Perdana Deepavali Galatta” (MEASAT Broadcast Network Systems Sdn Bhd (Astro Gempak), Malaysia)

6. Best Asian Telemovie/Feature Film
