CW is known for portraying leads with flawless hair, perfect looks and are impeccably dressed. Now, they have taken a much loved comic book, Archie comics, and turned it into a TV show seemingly 100 times darker and sexier than we anticipated. Titled Riverdale, the upcoming TV series may be the replacement you're looking for to fill that Gossip Girl-sized hole in your heart.

Set in the present day, the Greg Berlanti-produced drama will follow Archie (KJ Apa) and other beloved well-known characters from the comics as they enter their sophomore year of high school while dealing with a murder-mystery.

“It’s definitely Archie, but a little darker, a little more complex and a little weirder than you might remember from the digest you bought at the supermarket,” executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told EW at the San Diego Comic Con earlier this year. “We’re saying it’s a little bit like Archie meets Twin Peaks.”

The live-action series offers an unflinching, compelling take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their friends, as they explore small-town life and the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade. The show will focus on the eternal love triangle of Archie Andrews, girl-next-door Betty Cooper, and rich socialite Veronica Lodge, and will include the complete cast of characters from the comic books – including Archie’s rival, Reggie Mantle, and his best friend, Jughead Jones.

The spooky promo teases a rather buff Archie, parties, plenty of high school drama, and also features shots of Veronica (Camila Mendes), the new girl in town competing with Betty (Lili Reinhart) for Archie’s affections. Flashes of ambulance lights and yellow police tape tease the tragic death of “high school golden boy” Jason Blossom, which kicks off the series.
