And it looks like the world's mightiest superhero could very well be jumping on the bandwagon as well.
A brand new Superman
A 'Superman' movie reboot is reportedly in the works at Warner Bros Studio, entertainment website Deadline reported.According to the report, no details about the plot or the casting have been released yet, but the studio have already lined up the production crew for the reboot.
The reboot will be produced by J.J. Abrams (who also produced the last 'Star Wars' film, 'Rise Of The Skywalker') and his colleagues at the famed Bad Robot production company.
Ta-Nehisi Coates, a celebrated writer who writes Marvel's monthly 'Black Panther' and 'Captain America' comics, will reportedly be penning the reboot.
While details of the reboot are pretty scarce at the moment, it is interesting to note that the reboot is still set in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
"To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor.
"I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero," Coated was quoted as saying.
Back in 2019, Abrams' Bad Robot production company signed a lucrative deal with WarnerMedia to produce and develop the 'Justice League Dark Universe' for film and TV.
On top of the 'Superman' reboot, Abrams will be overseeing a 'Justice League Dark' series for streaming site HBO Max and a 'Constantine' reboot as well.
A Black Superman?
While everyone is waiting with bated breath to find out if Henry Cavill will be putting on Superman's cape again (we're pretty sure he's waiting to find out too), entertainment website The Hollywood Reporter reported that Warner Bros is billing the reboot as "a Black Superman story".According to THR, executives at Warner Bros have been toying around with that idea "for months, if not a year or two".
If the news is true, the one actor that is heavily-favourited to don the cape is none other than Michael B. Jordan.
In 2019, the 'Black Panther' star tried to pitch a 'Black Superman' project to the studio, but the idea did not gain any traction at the time.
While the studio has clarified that the reboot is not connected to Jordan's pitch, that doesn't necessarily rule the 34-year-old out for the lead role.

Black Superman in the comics
In case you're wondering, yes: there's an African-American version of Superman in the comics.His 'human' name is Calvin Ellis (Kryptonian name: Kalel) and unlike the Clark Kent we are all familiar with, Ellis has a much cooler job: the President of the United States!
You see, Ellis is the Superman in another Earth in the Multiverse, so he splits his time between defending Earth and running the country.
Ellis uses the White House as his base of operations (like how Kent uses the Fortress of Solitude) and Brainiac serves as his personal computer.
Ellis first appeared in the Final Crisis #7 comics, joining a a team of different versions of Superman from the Multiverse to defend the planet against Darkseid's invasion.
Here's an even more interesting bit: writer Grant Morrison confirmed that Black Superman was based on former US president Barack Obama, who once joked, on TV, that he was sent to Earth from the dying planet of Krypton by his father, Jor-El.
It'll be interesting to see if the movie reboot will be following the story of Calvin Ellis, because a US president as Superman? That will definitely be fun to watch.
