With the Klang Valley moving on to Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP), more and more businesses are allowed to reopen.

One of them is cinemas, which was allowed to reopen its doors for business last Friday (10 September).

However, two of Malaysia's largest cinema chain operators, TGV Cinemas and Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), have opted to keep their cinemas close until the government releases the full standard operating procedures (SOPs).

But fret not; the long wait is finally over.

We have a date!

TGV Cinemas has announced that they will be reopening their cinemas nationwide on 23 September.

General Manager of Sales and Marketing for TGV, Mohit Bhargava, said in a statement that they will be "taking every necessary precautionary measure" to ensure that all SOPs are met.

And that means that only Malaysians above the age of 18 who have received both doses of their vaccination are allowed to visit the cinemas.

These individuals must also be able to produce their Digital Vaccination Certificate as proof when requested.

On top of that, Mohit also revealed that its cinemas will be operating at a reduced capacity, and movies would be staggered to minimise crowds in common areas.

"TGV will also be operating at a reduced seating capacity to allow for proper one-metre social distancing in halls and guests are only allowed to purchase seats according to the layout as set on our website and app," he said in the press statement.

Only family members or members of the same household can purchase paired seatings, Mohit added.

Movie tickets can be purchased on their website, through their app or its concession kiosks to minimise face-to-face interaction.
