Spotify recently revealed its annual top list that takes a look back at the artistes, albums, track and moments that made 2016 such a magnificent year in music. In Malaysia, The Chainsmokers is the most loved artist while Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande take the crown as the most streamed male and female artist for 2016.

"Faded" by Alan Walker proved to be a universal favourite as it is the biggest song in the country and Purpose by Justin Bieber topped the list for most popular album of the entire year!


It is no surprise that Coldplay is in the top three for both Top Artistes and Top Male Artistes category as their concert in Singapore sold out within minutes and everyone was clamoring to get their hands on that coveted Coldplay concert ticket. The band is making waves in Malaysia, as well as the talented Charlie Puth and the charming Shawn Mendes.

Globally, Drake dominated the most streamed track and album for 2016, and Rihanna was crowned most streamed female artist for the second year in a row on the international charts.“Drake has been unstoppable this year – he’s a true global superstar,” said Stefan Blom, Spotify’s Chief Content and Chief Strategy Officer. “With the top album and the top song this year, as well as his successful Summer Sixteen tour, Drake continues to engage his fans in a way that only Drake can; it’s no surprise he is dominating the music industry."

This is Drake's second year in a row as the world's most streamed artist, receiving more than 4.7 billion streams – more than double the 1.8 billion he saw last year. More impressively, Drake is the most streamed artist of all time on Spotify with over 8.7 billion streams.

Beyond all, Drake saw superlative success across the American and international charts, topping tallies for top artistes, most streamed male artistes, most streamed tracks with "One Dance (feat. WizKid and Kyla)" and most streamed albums with Views. Drake is also the top artist in hip-hop and pop genres and his song "One Dance" is Spotify's top breakup song.

Drake also charted the most songs on Pandora’s Top Thumb Hundred 2016 list, with 14 of the most-liked songs of the year.

In non-Drake accomplishments, Zayn became the top breakout artist, and the Discover Weekly playlist was streamed more than nine billion times this year.
