We have plenty of classic, patriotic movies in our vault.

Soon, we will be sharing them with the world.

Helps promote Malaysian history and culture

The National Film Development Corporation's (Finas) has revealed plans of screening old local patriotic movies on international screens.

Its chairman, Zakaria Abdul Hamid, told News Straits Times that this is part of Finas' latest initiative to showcase some of Malaysia's finest locally-made movies.

Zakaria shared that the idea to screen such movies at the international arena was actually suggested by Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, who was previously the Minister of Communications and Multimedia.

"Datuk Saifuddin suggested last year that we get our best known patriotic films screened internationally. Now is the right time, as he is in charge of the Foreign Ministry and Finas will work closely with Wisma Putra on this," he was quoted as saying.

To get the ball rolling, Zakaria said they will start by screening ready-made patriotic films such as 'Bukit Kepong', 'Embun' and 'Paloh' before moving on to newer patriotic films.

He hopes that by doing so, it will help promote Malaysia's rich history and culture.

"Screening such films internationally helps promote Malaysian history and culture. Russia does the same, and the Russian Embassy screens patriotic films at Finas' P. Ramlee Mini Theatre,” Zakaria said.

Finas will be working closely with all Malaysian embassies via their cultural units to screen such films in various countries, he added.

We think it's definitely a great initiative. We can't wait to see 'Puteri Gunung Ledang' showing on international screens.
