That's when the lawsuits come in.
A case of copyright infringement
According to a report by website India Today, a Tamil film producer is looking to take legal action against the director and producers of the award-winning movie 'Parasite'.
The producer, PL Thenappan, claimed that the Korean movie has copied the plot of his Tamil movie 'Minsara Kanna'.
"I will be filing a case with help from an international lawyer. They have taken the plot from my film.
"When they find out that some of our films have been inspired by their films, they file cases. Similarly, it is only fair for us to do the same," he was quoted as saying.
He also added that he's seeking compensation from the producers of 'Parasite' for ripping off their plot.
Same same but different?
'Parasite' was directed by Bong Joon-ho and last Monday (10 February), it made history by becoming the first non-English film to win the Best Picture award in the 92-year history of the Academy Awards.
'Minsara Kanna', meanwhile, was released back in 1999 and stars famous Kollywood actor Vijay.
When 'Parasite' walked home with the award (and three others), fans of Vijay took to social media to call out the similarities between the two movies.
'Minsara Kanna' revolves around Kaasi, who enters the home of a rich family as a personal driver to win over a woman he's in love with. Soon, he gets his family members employed in her household - with a not-so-good motive, of course.
It does sound a little bit familiar, doesn't it?
