You Can Now Watch Malaysian Classic 'Sepet' For Free On YouTube
Fancy a massive throwback movie marathon? If you do, well, we have some really good news for you.
One of Malaysia's most iconic films will be available to view for free on YouTube.
A major throwback
'Sepet', the groundbreaking movie about inter-racial love, is streaming for free on the video platform.The news was announced by the film’s lead actress Sharifah Amani on her Twitter page:
The movie was the brainchild of the late Yasmin Ahmad, and it explores the taboo of an inter-racial relationship between a Chinese boy and a Malay girl in the then race-conscious Malaysia.If you haven’t seen it. Fun fact: Amani made her acting debut playing Orked in the movie.

'Sepet', which was released 16 years ago, won numerous award including the Le Grand Prix du Jury at the 27th Créteil International Women’s Film Festival in France and Best Asian Film Award at the 18th Tokyo International Film Festival.
The film’s popularity also inspired a sold-out musical, which ran for three weeks last September and was referenced in singer NJWA’s 2019 music video "Take Love Back".
