#GempakSpot: Sarawakian Woman Shows Off Her Traditional Attire At The Top Of A Himalayan Mountain
Usually, mountain climbers or hikers would bring along their nation’s flag and proudly display it at the peak of the mountain to show that they've reached the summit.
However, a 42-year-old mountain climber from Sarawak decided to do it her own way.
A very stylish one at that, we would say.
Pride for the tribe
Instead of brining along the Jalur Gemilang, Nancy Maria decided to showcase her tribe’s traditional costume when she reached the Annapurna Base Camp in the Himalayas.Advertisement
The former Dewi Remaja participant managed to climb up 4,130 metres up to the base camp in a bid to represent her tribe.
Once she was there, she then braved the cold weather and donned her traditional clothes to pay tribute to the people of Kayan from Uma Kuman in Belaga, Sarawak.
Her journey, which she embarked on with her husband Werry Lipi, was documented on her Facebook page.
Malay Mail reported that the couple flew from Kuala Lumpur to Kathmandu, Nepal on 25 November, and went on an eight-hour road journey to get to Pokhara, before officially starting their hike on 27 November.
Along the way, the couple witnessed scenic rivers and villages, and they reached the Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 metres height six days later.
After spending some time at the base camp, Maria and Lipi then reportedly descended back to Pokhara.
Well done, you guys! That's one way to rep your tribe!
