As 'Game of Thrones' has developed and grown over the years, we have seen many pretenders to the Iron Throne come and go.

Throughout it all, Dany has grown in power and emerged as one of the leading candidates to rule the Seven Kingdoms.

However, the past couple of seasons have shown several flaws that hint she’s not necessarily suited for rule.

In spite of those doubts, we can’t deny that Dany has shown admirable reserves to come back stronger than ever when it looks like she’s been beaten.

So we’re here to have a look at a simple question - is she really going to win the Game of Thrones?

Why She Will Win

#1 The Will to Win

Dany is possessed by the indomitable spirit of destiny riding on her shoulders. Her spirit and fight is second to none in the entire series, and she’s got the battle scars to prove it. She has overcome abuse, betrayal, assassination attempts and more to get to where she is. If it requires an iron will to sit on the Iron Throne, Dany more than qualifies.

#2 Learns from Mistakes

We know that Dany has made mistakes before (and has made quite a few in the last couple of seasons), but she’s always learned from them. From leaving herself vulnerable to being a hostage during her dealings in the city of Qarth, to the missteps in subjugating Slavers’ Bay and the Sons of The Harpy (via learning how she was mishandling her own dragons), Dany has shown the desire and intelligence to learn from her mistakes. She always comes back stronger.

#3 Loyal Fighting Force

The remnants of the Army of the Living might be small, but they are fiercely loyal to Dany (and Jon, whom has continually sworn loyalty to her). There are the Unsullied, the Dothraki, the Northern Army and more allies (as Varys has mentioned) flocking to her cause every day. They’ve seen her bleed and fight for the Living/North - they will fight for her till the very end. As hobbits have shown us, even the smallest of creatures can swing a war.

#4 Drogon The Dragon

She might only have one dragon left, but what a dragon! Drogon is easily the biggest and strongest of all the dragons - he already took a hit from a Scorpion (granted it was the previous version) and survived. While King’s Landing is surrounded with Mk II Scorpions as a means of protection, they can only angle up so high before Drogon’s ability to fly higher can surpass their targeting reticles.

If Dany chooses to incinerate Cersei and her forces, a divebomb attack from Drogon should do the trick. The rumours persist that he will be armoured up before the next battle - Dany DOES learn from her mistakes after all.

Why She Won’t

#1 Suspect Temperament

Daenerys Targaryen has a temper. A massive, raging, red-hot mess of a temper that continuously seethes beneath the surface. It manifests as unnecessary ruthlessness and clouded cold-bloodedness, such as being unable to accept when people do not immediately bend the knee to her - causing more problems than it solves.

There’s also her propensity to get easily riled up into making bad decisions (risking all of her dragons to save the band of brothers that wanted to capture a wight), and her inability to see beyond demands for loyalty and obedience. Dany is strong-willed, no doubt. Yet her inflexibility and rigidity do not a good and just queen, make.

#2 Ignores her advisers

This is a trait that has become more prominent in Season 8 as evidenced by her refusal to listen to Sansa when discussing the logistics of the army marching south (see also: Suspect Temperament), or when Varys counsels her against destroying King’s Landing.

This also happened when she refused to listen to her confidants when dealing with the problems in Mereen. It seems that the smaller her inner circle becomes, the more stubborn she gets - convinced that she only needs her own counsel on all matters, and allowing her personal feelings to get in the way of sound judgement (see : Sansa, Tyrion).

#3 Depleted Army

This is going to be a short paragraph. More than half the Unsullied gone, no more Free Folk, a handful of Dothraki, and a little more than half the Northern men. At a rough count, we figure Dany has less than 7,000 troops to call on, and only one dragon. Cersei has Scorpions, the Iron Fleet, the Lannister army and 20,000 mercenaries from the Golden Company. The odds are not in her favour.

#4 Jon Snow/Aegon Targaryen

Once the world finds out that Jon is Aegon Targaryen, with a stronger claim to the Iron Throne than Dany, that’ll probably toast her (currently fragile) alliance, as the Northern men and whichever allies she might pick up along the way (Dorne, for example) will demand that Jon be King instead. Not to mention the fact that the more conservative of the Northern lords would look rather dimly at the incestuous relationship between Dany and Jon.
