Iylia Adreena 19/12/2018 | 05:35 MYT
2018 has been a great year for local and international films as we were treated to top-notch, quality films.
Now that the year is coming to an end in just a matter of weeks, you must be wondering what’s in store for you in 2019?
Well, there will be a bunch of promising films debuting next year, and if you're a Disney fan – you’re in for atreat!
From live-action remakes to highly-anticipated MCU movies, we’ve got the low down on what’s coming to you in cinemas in 2019.

#1 'Captain Marvel'

Move over Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America; a new badass superhero (or superheroine, in this case) is in town to save you guys and the universe. The ‘key’ to the next ‘Avengers’ lies in Carol Denvers. And what better day to release the movie than on the annual International Women's Day?
Release date: 8 March 2019
Cast: Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou

#2 'Dumbo'

This Disney classic has been reimagined into a live-action movie, following the recent trend. We can’t wait to see Tim Burton’s take on this beloved film: will it be dark? Will his imagination be translated into a whimsical fantasy? The movie looks promising, so we can’t wait to see it when it drops.
Release date: 29 March 2019
Cast: Eva Green, Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito

#3 'Avengers: Endgame'

Every Marvel fan is counting down the days until the last installment of the highly-anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe film hits theatres. The trailer is already dramatic enough for us to digest, we hope no one else dies in ‘Avengers 4’ because we still haven’t recovered from the trauma of the last 'Avengers' movie.
Release date: 26 April 2019
Cast: Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo

#4 'Aladdin'

Fans will be seeing ‘A whole new world’ with this Disney favourite as it is coming to the silver screens in the form of a live-action movie. Will Smith has taken on the responsibility of lending his voice for the role of Genie, so we’re pretty sure he’s going to nail it.
Release date: Will Smith, Naomi Scott, Mena Massoud, Marwan Kenzari
Cast: 24 May 2019

#5 'Toy Story 4'

Can you believe it has been 23 years since the first ‘Toy Story’ movie dropped? So kids, make way for the adults as this is one movie we grew up with, and the halls will definitely be filled with eager Disney fans in their 20s and 30s. Psst, we hear there will be plenty of new characters, so keep an eye on them!
Release date: 21 June 2019
Cast: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Annie Potts, Patricia Arquette, Keanu Reeves

#6 'The Lion King'

Another Disney classic that we 90s kids hold dear has been given the live-action treatment and this one stars a power-packed celebrity cast. Get ready to scream your lungs out when “Aaaaasimbenya dababachiwawa” comes up.
Release date: 19 July 2019
Cast: Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Beyonce

#7 'Artemis Fowl'

Adapted from the science fiction fantasy series originally written by Eoin Colfer, the film is based on Artemis Fowl II, who is set to reclaim his family’s fortune while fighting evil pixies. Well, to be honest we’re getting some 'Men In Black' and 'Matrix' vibes, but this movie is obviously for a younger audience based on its trailer.
Release date: 9 August 2019
Cast: Lara McDonnell, Judi Dench, Ferdia Shaw, Miranda Raison

#8 'Frozen 2'

Guess this is one movie Disney can’t ‘Let It Go’ as it will return and grace cinemas worldwide in 2019. Let’s just hope they don’t produce another infectious song that annoying kids will be humming 24/7 for the next four years (or until Disney decides to release a third one).
Release date: 27 November 2019
Cast: Kristen Bell, Evan Rachel Wood, Jonathan Groff, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad

#9 'Star Wars: Episode IX'

The final chapter of the ‘Star Wars’ sequel trilogy will meet fans of the Earth and Universe in exactly a year from now. So, will the Rebel Alliance persevere or the Galactic Empire will reclaim its loss and rule the galaxy once again? You need to wait a full year to find out.
Release date: 20 December 2019
Cast: Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher
