Dead or alive, there is going to be a 'RoboCop' reboot.

On Wednesday, movie studio MGM announced that plans are in place to reboot arguably one of the greatest film franchises in movie history: 'RoboCop'.

Four years ago, the studio tried to reboot the same franchise, but 2014's 'RoboCop' missed the mark so bad, movie buffs wouldn't even consider it a legit RoboCop film.

Us when watching the 2014 film.
This time around, they hope that it would be a different story as a talented director has already been signed up to helm the movie.

Here are four things we know so far about the new 'RoboCop' movie:

#1 The director has directed a robot cop movie before

Like a friendlier version of RoboCop.
According to entertainment website Deadline, the movie studio has signed up Neill Blomkamp to direct the new 'RoboCop' franchise. The director is best known for his alien film 'District 9' (if you haven't seen it, do yourself a favour and watch it NOW!) and more recently, he directed 'Chappie' - a movie about a crime-fighting robot. Sounds familiar, right?

'Chappie' did pretty well when it premiered in 2015, so it's safe to say that the new 'RoboCop' movie is in good hands.

#2 The movie already has a title

Please don't suck. The movie studio has already attached an official title to the movie: 'RoboCop Returns'. So far, the only problem we have with this new movie is its title. The last time the word 'Returns' was attached to a superhero film (read: 'Superman Returns'), it flopped massively.

We are just hoping and praying that it won't be as bad as 'Superman Returns'. Please. Don't mess with our childhood like that.

#3 It will be produced by the original writers of the 1987 film

New franchise, old faces.
If you were a fan of the original RoboCop movie, you'll be happy to hear that the new one would feature some familiar faces. The new 'RoboCop' film will be based on a story written by the writers behind the 1987 film, Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner. Both Neumeier and Miner had written the story back in the 80s, but it didn't see the light of day due to a writer's strike the year after the original 'RoboCop' premiered.

Neumeier and Miner will work on the reboot as producer and executive producer respectively. So far, no mention yet on who would play RoboCop or when the film will premiere.

#4 It will not be related to the 2014 reboot

We loved the new suit though.Which is probably a good thing, because the 2014 'RoboCop' was sort of a blockbuster flop. The 2014 movie was directed by Jose Padilha and starred Joel Kinnaman as Alex Murphy. It debuted to mixed reviews and it didn't meet the numbers the studio was hoping for, so the idea of a sequel was out of the question.

According to Deadline, the reboot will be an official sequel to the 1987 film by Paul Verhoeven. The plot reportedly involves RoboCop returning to his gun-slinging, crime-busting ways to save the city of Detroit as anarchy reigns and the fate of the city hangs in the balance.

What do you guys think? Do you agree with the movie studio rebooting an all-time classic action movie?
