We've lost a legend.

In case you haven't heard, the legendary Stan Lee has passed away.

The creator of some of our favourite superheroes such as Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor passed away on Monday at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He was 95.

When news broke about Stan Lee's passing, some of the world's biggest stars took to their social media pages to pay tribute to the man:

To say goodbye to the man who made all our superhero dreams come true, we've compiled a list of amazing, incredible, marvelous facts you probably didn't know about Stan Lee.

Rest in power, Mr. Lee. You will be missed.

#1 Stan Lee is not his real name

He was born Stanley Martin Lieber, but when he first started writing, he adopted 'Stan Lee' as his temporary pen-name. His dream was to write a novel, and he was saving his real name for that. While he didn't get to live that dream, we have a feeling he's pretty content with what the name Stan Lee has achieved.

#2 He started by writing celebrity obituaries

Before he created our favourite Marvel superheroes, a young Stan Lee wrote antemortem obituaries for celebrities. He eventually quit the job because it started getting "depressing".

#3 He became an interim editor of Timely Comics at the age of 19

When we were 19, we were wasting our time away playing 'Counter Strike' till the wee hours of the morning, but for Stan Lee, he was appointed an interim editor of Timely Comics, at that time just a small division of popular 1950s magazine Pulp Magazine. Timely Comics would later become Marvel Comics.

#4 Captain America launched his career

After spending years doing menial tasks such as fetching lunches and erasing pencil lines from comic pages, Stan Lee finally got his big break when he was asked to write a two-page Captain America comic. The comic was titled 'Captain America Foils The Traitor’s Revenge', and that was the first time he used the name Stan Lee.

#5 The printers accidentally turned the Hulk green

Speaking of superheroes, Stan Lee initially made the Incredible Hulk gray in colour. However, an issue at the printers made it hard to keep the colour consistent. So, in issue #2, Stan Lee said the Hulk turned green “with no explanation".

#6 He had a brief stint with DC Comics

Stan Lee is synonymous with Marvel Comics, but in the early 2000s, he actually had a brief stint with DC Comics. He wrote a comic series called 'Just Imagine', where he re-imagined popular DC superheroes Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and the Flash.

#7 His contract with Marvel is a stuff of legends

In 1998, he signed a lifetime deal with Marvel Enterprises. According to the terms of his contract, he is only required to spend 10 per cent of his time with the company. Not only that, he had a special clause in his contract stating that he must appear in any movie based on one of his characters. Of course, he got paid for his cameo appearances lah.

#8 The role he wanted to play the most

While he has appeared in tonnes of Marvel movies, he once admitted that the role he wanted to play the most was J. Jonah Jameson, the hard nose editor of the Daily Bugle in the Spider-Man universe. As for villains, he wanted to play Dr Doom, the main antagonist in the 'Fantastic Four' comic series.
