It's been one long year (yep, 'Avengers: Endgame' has just turned one), but we finally have an answer to one of the longest-standing questions fan have regarding the 'Avengers' movies.

The writers of 'Avengers: Endgame' have finally revealed why the six original Avengers survived Thanos' snap.

It was planned all along

One snap and all gone.
A brief rewind: at the end of 'Avengers: Infinity War', the purple baddie managed to collect all six Infinity Stones and with a snap of his fingers, he wiped out half of the universe.

Those who perished include some of our favourite Marvel superheroes: Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Starlord (Chris Pratt), to name a few.

Only a couple of our favourite heroes remain, including Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), as well as newcomer Ant-Man (Paul Rudd).

Fans started speculating as to why only the OG Avengers survived the snap, with the main theory being the studio wanted to focus on Phase 1 superheroes, considering most of them will not be returning to the MCU after 'Avengers: Endgame'.

Turns out, the fans were right.

Not OG Avenger? Sorry, you die.
When a fan asked the writers of 'Avengers: Endgame', Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the question during a special quarantine watch party recently, they confirmed that it was a special tribute to the superheroes that kickstarted the entire MCU, entertainment site We Got This Covered reported.

“Were the original Avengers intended to be left alive so that 'Endgame' could be very much a finale and an ode to these original characters?” the fan asked.

“Largely, yes. – CM,” Markus answered.

Back in 2019, the head honcho of Marvel, Kevin Feige, said in an interview with Empire Magazine that it's always been their plan to give the original Avengers more screen time in 'Avengers: Endgame'.

“People would point out that that Cap wasn’t in Infinity War a whole lot. And Iron Man didn’t really speak for that last half hour because of what was going on.

"But those characters, and all of the original six, are very much the focus of 'Endgame' in a very personal and emotional way.”

There you have it, guys! We can now rest peacefully knowing that the OG Avengers got the send off they deserved.
