Needless to say, the year 2020 hasn't been kind to anybody.

The bushfires in Australia, the shocking death of basketball legend Kobe Bryant and need we mention, the worldwide pandemic.

The last thing we need is for a haunted doll to escape her museum and terrorize people - something which China somehow managed to convinced the world that it had happened.

How the mix up happened

She was sharing how she made Tom Cruise run.
The world-class mix up happened during entertainment site The Hollywood Reporter's interview with actress Annabelle Wallis, Snopes reported.

Wallis, who coincidentally also starred in the 'Anabelle' horror movie, was talking about how she made fellow Hollywood actor Tom Cruise "run" on camera (which is something he hates doing) while filming 'The Mummy'.

The entertainment website even included snippets of her "escape" scenes from the movie.

It was just your normal interview - until it was translated into Chinese.

For some strange reasons, Wallis' behind-the-scenes tale was translated into two words nobody wanted to hear in 2020: 'Anabelle escaped'.

Not a joke in 2020.

Netizens react

Of course, considering what a sh*tty year 2020 has been, news of 'Anabelle's escape' and 'Warren Museum' started trending on social media.

Some started freaking out, while some surprisingly expected this to happen because, well, 2020:

To further freak people out, a kind-hearted netizen has even updated Anabelle's Wikipedia page to include the part that she had escaped her museum and she's now on the loose:

Did she really escape though?

Thankfully, the real Anabelle doll is still safely locked up (we hope!) behind a glass cabinet somewhere.

According to Snopes, the seemingly harmless doll was once locked up in the Warren’s Occult Museum, a place that housed some of the supposedly haunted artifacts collected by paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

It's still locked inside a glass cabinet.
However, when both Ed and Lorraine passed away, the Occult Museum was forced to shut down in 2018 due to zoning issues.

Now, the doll, said to be possessed by a girl named Annabelle Higgins, is in the possession of Tony Spera, the Warrens' son-in-law.

So, don't worry, you guys; you can sleep soundly tonight. Just remember to check under your bed first, because, you know, 2020.
