It looks like the award-winning local film ‘The Garden of Evening Mists’ (TGOEM) is set to ‘return’ to its main character’s homeland – Japan.

The film, which received a whopping nine nominations at the 56th Golden Horse Awards, will premiere at the 2020 Osaka Asian Film Festival.

Success around the globe​

The film festival is set to take place from 6-15 March 2020 at Umeda Burg, Osaka.

Interestingly, 'TGOEM' has also been chosen to kick off the festival and will be screened on 6 March.

Prior to this, the movie was also screened at the 24th Busan International Film Festival as well as the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival

'TGOEM' has been screened in other countries prior to Japan such as Singapore, Brunei, Taiwan dan Hong Kong.

The film, directed by Tom Shu-yu Lin. was adapted from the award-winning novel of the same title by Tan Twan Eng.

Its main character, Aritomo Nakamura. is played by Japanese actor Hiroshi Abe who stars opposite Malaysia’s very own Sinje Lee as Teoh Yun Ling.

Set during the 1950s, the film tells the tale of Yun Ling who travels to Cameron Highlands to meet a famous but reclusive gardener in hopes of commissioning him to build a garden as a memorial for her late sister who died during the war.
