Local Actress Maya Karin Swims With Garbage, Netizens Approve
We hate to say this, but when celebrities endorse a non-profit cause, they are sometimes more talk than action.
Local actress Maya Karin, thankfully, is not one of them.
The 40-year-old is the ambassador of the 'River Of Life (ROL)' campaign, and her recent public service announcement (PSA) has won praises from netizens.
The praises poured in after she posted a video on her official Instagram account over the weekend.
Swimming with garbage

In the video, a calm and smiling Maya, who had always been an advocate of environmental issues, can be seen “swimming" in a stream with rubbish floating all around her.
"Is it not pretty swimming with garbage? Everybody points fingers when we talk about pollution. We often say our garbage disposal system is not systematic or that the authorities are not doing their job.
"But the truth is it all starts with us. It is time for us to change and stop pointing fingers.
"Educate and increase the level of awareness for our future generations,” she said in her narration.
The video has since garnered over 182,000 views with over 200 comments, most of them praising the 'Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam' actress for helping save the environment.
“Thank you for doing this,” wrote @vernieman
"You're my idol, Maya. Great job, full of dark humour and very hard-hitting. I fondly remember you visiting my school to spread environmental awareness several years ago and it was such an honour to meet and greet you," said Wani.
Even Singaporean singer Awi Rafael was impressed: "Awesome Maya. Keep it up".
Thank you for being a real-life Captain Planet, Maya!
