Barely 12 hours after news broke that the local release date for the live action Beauty and the Beast was postponed, the Malaysian Censorship Board (LPF) has given its approval to screen the movie in Malaysian cinemas.

LPF chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid told The Star Online that the film had to undergo a minor edit before being released to the public.

"The film has been approved with a P13 parental guidance classification, with a minor cut," he was quoted by the news portal as saying.

Abdul Halim also confirmed that the minor edit involved a "gay moment" in the movie.

He added that it is up to the film's distributor, The Walt Disney Co (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, to decide when they want to air the film.

On Monday, Disney Malaysia released a statement to the media saying that the release of the movie was postponed "due to internal review of release date", three days before its official release date of 16 March.

Rumours then started swirling that the postponement was due to the sexual orientation of a character in the film named LeFou.

Needless to say, the sudden postponement caused major confusion among fans of the movie who had been waiting for the remake for over two years since it was first announced in January 2015.
