[REVIEW] 5 Explosive Reasons Why ‘Polis Evo 2’ Will Blow Your Mind
Our local movie industry has had a great run this year with a rather healthy growth too! A handful of movies broke records and made millions at the box office, something that Badang producers can only dream of.
After the success of PASKAL, we were left wondering if any other local action movie this year could top the excitement and adrenaline rush that the movie inspired by true events gave us.
Well, it seems that PASKAL may have a strong contender now – Polis Evo 2 (PE2).
Polis Evo received rave reviews and was a box office success back in 2015, so will its sequel live up to its predecessor?
We list down five reasons why PE2 can edge out other action movies this year and why you should watch it.
#1 A Much More Mature Storyline

If you’ve watched the first instalment of Polis Evo, we know you probably chuckled throughout the movie. Many may expect the same thing in the sequel, but the storyline gets more mature and heavier.
PE2 tells the tale of Inspector Sani and Inspector Khai who receive a tougher call of duty – breach of national security.
A group of cult extremists called Al-Minas have invaded a local island and are holding 200 people hostage. So now, it’s up to the duo and their team to save the day.
Such a plotline is rarely heard of in local movies, so you can expect plenty of intense drama and explosive action.
#2 Jam-Packed With Action Scenes That'll Blow You Away

The movie literally started off with a bang - likely sending a surge of adrenaline rush to the viewers. Imagine a fight between the cult and the army in slow mo, epic!
Kudos to the cinematographer for being able to capture the essence of what a real action scene is, we literally had goosebumps watching it.
But one of the best action scenes in the movie has got to be when the cult followers attacked the villagers on the island. We were on the edge of our seats watching it!

It sent shivers down our spine just thinking of it – the combination of eerie background music and smoke covering every corner of the village looks exactly something like out of The Purge.
Overall, the action scenes were much better than the previous movie.
#3 An Iconic Villain

It seems that Inspector Khai and Sani have finally found their match. The leader of Al-Minas cult, Hafsyam or Saif is played by actor Hasnul Rahmat.
His portrayal of the cult leader really made an impact to viewers. We felt really angry, stressed out, and revolted watching him. Even the sound of his voice will make you feel annoyed.
We love the fact that Hasnul didn’t have to try hard to become the most notorious villain in this story, he’s a total natural!
If we’d have to pick a villain that’s on par with his acting, it’d be Bane from Batman: The Dark Knight Rises.
#4 Zizan Razak and Shaheizy Sam’s Chemistry Is Unparalleled

Both seasoned actors’ chemistry in PE2 is off the charts. They’re probably the most compatible pair in Malaysian cinematic history to date.
Zizan and Shaheizy’s characters are day and night, which compliments each other perfectly.
Although Zizan may be well known for taking comedic roles or being the comedic relief in movies, fans will be pleased to know that they’ll be able to get a glimpse of a more serious side of him. But that doesn’t mean he won’t attempt to tickle your funny bones in the movie.

As for Shaheizy, we can see him going full throttle and all out for his character, Inspector Khai.
Serious and comedic roles aside, there will be one scene between the both of them that might make you shed a tear. So, you’ve got to see it to believe it.
#5 Exceptional Sound Effects
Who knew a local production could be on par as Hollywood action movies when it comes to sound effects? The production team truly brought their ‘A’ game to deliver those magnificent sounds to your ears.
And if you couldn't get the soundtrack for Polis Evo out of your head all day, wait till you listen to the sequel’s soundtrack.
Sang Saka Biru sung by SonaOne, Alif, Joe Flizzow, and Altimet is a complete banger and will get you humming in no time! Its lyrics are laden with cryptic and non-cryptic messages and we definitely dig the siren sound in the song, which perfectly complements the movie.
VERDICT

Overall, we were pleased with the outcome of the movie. Sure, the movie had its flaws as some parts were a little bit draggy and the ending could’ve been better. But we think that fans will enjoy it better than the prequel.
It’d be wrong to come to a conclusion without watching the movie, so haters and naysayers out there should spend some time in the cinema watching Polis Evo 2 before making their judgement. Trust us, the storyline and message is much bigger and deeper than its trailer.
