10 Types Of Teachers You've Most Probably Met In School

Afiqah 16/05/2017 | 06:47 MYT
Teachers; they do the noble job of imparting knowledge and wisdom to those who seek it. Each of them executes their task in different styles.
We have compiled a list of several types of teachers you must have encountered (or still encountering) in school!
Check it out and don’t forget to tag your teachers to let them know that you still remember them!

1. The Strict & Scary Teacher

No school is complete without the presence of the extremely garang teacher. Everyone in the school knows not to mess with this teacher. This teacher’s voice when on a roll could potentially bring the sky down! Discipline is the key to staying out of trouble here. This teacher may just have a sixth sense because he/she just always seems to know if you’re up to no good. Even the naughtiest kids would rather be sent to the principal than to this teacher. But always, this is the teacher we all remember most when reminiscing about the good ol’ days because of the deep impact he left in shaping who we are today.

2. The Sporting Teacher

These are the cool teachers. They were probably the naughty kids back then during their days too because they seem to understand why we do what we do. They can even laugh it off but it is usually accompanied with a little word of advice too. In class, they are very open to opinions and questions – even if it doesn’t relate to the topic! It’s nice to talk to them. They can be quite helpful too! You can also rely on them as your latest news provider (read: gossips from the class next door) because they seem to always be in the know.

3. The Learning-Made-Fun Teacher

This teacher has the ability to keep everyone awake during class and have the interest to learn. It’s so much fun! Whether it is history or science or geography, the creative method of teaching that he applies makes the subjects more appealing and understandable! Instructing us to do role-plays, telling us more fun facts relating to the subject that was not included in the textbook and organising trips to locations that would allow us to comprehend what we learn better, boredom is just not in the dictionary during his class! He knows how to pull off the classic jokes too! First class teaching skill!

4. The Lazy Teacher
Sorry to say but there’s always that teacher who shows up for class but really couldn’t be bothered to actually do the teaching. “Okay, class. Read up pages 81-90. Try to understand it. If not, then only ask me”, they would say as they continue to proceed with their business on the phone. Well, if it’s a once or twice deal, it is still acceptable. But when that’s how it works throughout the whole year, we surely got issues. We're looking at you, Encik T!

5. The Motherly Teacher

Aww… Just thinking about the teachers who fall in this category already warms the heart. They treat us students like their own children. With the sound advice given regularly (the sessions could also get quite emotional sometimes) and genuine care to make sure that each and every one in class feels comfortable to learn, they are simply wonderful. They truly are concerned about our developments. At times, they are also the ones who would also help resolve the disputes the students face amongst each other or with other teachers! Such loving teachers they are!

6. The Boring Teacher

Sigh. This is harsh but sometimes, the truth is harsh. This teacher does his duty and teaches what he is supposed to teach. However, it’s always so straightforward and dull that you will find yourself struggling to stop yourself from dozing off. Lessons, as according to the syllabus are being taught but all in all, the presentation of it is just b-o-r-i-n-g. Sorry, Teacher! It just is.

7. The Homework-Is-A-Must-For-My-Subject Teacher

This teacher will never dismiss the class without giving out homework. It does not matter whether tomorrow is Hari Raya or Christmas or anything – homework is homework. In fact, the more you groan about it, the more workload you shall get. It could get quite frustrating, really. Perhaps she enjoys that tormented looks on us students when we realise we can’t go on a full holiday mode. It’s either that or she really wants us to have a solid grasp on the subject with the extra practice. Oh, and don’t you dare come back with an uncompleted homework! You are just putting yourself in big trouble, Mister!

8. The Fashionista Teacher

It’s fascinating how this teacher is always on point in how she looks. Makeup, shoes, handbag and accessories that match the outfit of the day – it’s an all day, err day affair! This teacher just knows how to dress for the occasion and stand out from the rest! Yes, even during sports day. She should totally be teaching the self-grooming and image subject if there was such a thing in school!

9. The Vicious Teacher

Some teachers seem to have their targeted victims for certain situations. Well, if you’ve been among the notorious ones, you would probably have plentiful of such experience. They love to put you on the spot to ask you to answer the questions in class or even during the school assembly simply because they knew you weren’t paying attention the whole time and wouldn’t be able to provide the correct answer. They just want you to stop daydreaming or talking to one another and start focusing on what’s happening in front. It’s for your own good, really.

10. The Soft-Spoken Teacher

This teacher is soft-spoken by nature. So, if you happen to be in his/her class and sitting at the back, you’d always be, “Teacher, can you please speak louder. We cannot really hear you”. And for a moment, the volume would be increased and you’d be able to hear him/her better. It is usually short-lived though as the voice would eventually fade yet again. Maybe kids today don’t have this issue because of those portable microphones. Well, cheers to that!
At the end of the day, whether we realise it or not, meeting and dealing with teachers of various personalities is a learning experience itself. It helps shape who we are as individuals and hopefully, it is for the better.
And for that, terima kasih, Cikgu!
