When you live until 100, you’d probably know a lot of people. It would only be natural to receive birthday wishes from them, especially when you turn a century old.

However, for a Jack Annall from the United Kingdom, he was surprised to receive more than 700 birthday cards from strangers across the globe prior to his 101st birthday on August 19.

According to a report in BBC, Annal usually celebrates his birthday with his daughter Mary.

This year, they could not celebrate together because Mary was stuck in Australia due to Covid-19.

Disappointment turned into delight

Annall reportedly felt lonely and disappointed over the situation.

So, his care home manager Vicky Gudgin, decided to take matters into her own hands.

Gudgin appealed for cards to be sent to Annall to celebrate his birthday.

“I thought, let’s get the community involved and the extent of it has been incredible.

“Annall is a wonderful person and we really wanted to make it special for him.

“Knowing him, he wouldn’t want a party and I thought it would be nice to get a few cards for him,” she said.

Gudgin iniatilly asked colleagues and residents to send in cards for Annall.

When the appeal was posted on social media, Annall started receiving cards from all over the world.

Vicky only targeted to receive 101 cards. But when she received 700 cards, she changed the target to 1,000.
