We've been there: you're waiting for the bus or you're on a one-hour train ride and you're bored out of your mind and you wished there was a mobile game that would help you kill the time.

There are so many red birds you can fling and candies you can crush, but ultimately, you'll get bored of it before your train ride or bus wait is over.

If you, like us, are always on the look out for the latest games to download, we're here to save the day.

Which one to choose?
Last month, we were flown to a secret location in Singapore to preview three new and upcoming mobile games that are set to take the region by storm.

We were given the chance to test them out and our verdict? They are so friggin' fun!

So, if you call yourself a mobile gamer, you could download these iOS games on your iDevices and lose hours and hours of sleep because they are truly addictive.

Bonus: all three games were developed by programmers from Southeast Asia, so Asia represent, yo!.

WarPods

If you're a fan of cutesy characters and classic video games such as 'Brick Breaking' and 'Break Blocks', 'WarPods' is the game for you. 'WarPods' is a free-to-play, sci-fi block-breaker RPG with a Saturday morning cartoon vibe.

The aim of the game is simple: piloting cute characters in spaceships, your goal is to battle a multitude of warmongering space oddities by shooting fire (laser?) balls at aliens and space zombies.

However, unlike 'Space Invaders', you need to also break the bricks around surrounding the boss in order to get to the boss - something that is harder said than done, as we learnt during our preview session last month.

The game is developed by a Malaysian indie company called Weyrdworks Studio and JT Yean, co-founder of the company, is responsible for the cute characters you see on screen.

"We are a two-man team. My colleague Shawn Beck is in charge of the programming and stage design, while I'm in charge of the character design," he quipped when we met him during the preview session.

'WarPods' is JT's new baby.
According to JT, they are huge fans of the classic brick-breaking games, and they've decided to put their own spin on it by including cartoon characters.

"Everybody loves cartoon, so we thought it would be a fun idea and a cool twist to include those elements into a classic game," he told us.

INVICTUS: Lost Soul

If you look for fighting games on the App Store, you'll literally see a page full of them. Nithinan Jessie Boonyawattanapisut (or Jessie, for short) knows this, which is why she's decided to make 'INVICTUS: Lost Soul' different from the others.

'INVICTUS: Lost Soul' is a turn-based fighting game powered by the much-hyped about Unity Engine, a cross-platform game engine. Unlike your usual fighting game, you control your warrior using a deck of cards.

"Our goal is to make sure that the game is easy for casual gamers to pick up, but at the same time, we don't want it to be too easy," Jessie, the CEO of True Axion Interactive, the company based in Thailand that developed the game, told us.

With their one-of-a-kind playing mechanics, it eliminates the button-mashing or ability-spamming techniques we often see in fighting games.

"Because you need a card to attack, parry or dodge, it requires a certain strategy and impeccable timing to defeat your opponent," she said.

One of their goals, according to Jessie, is to make 'INVICTUS: Lost Soul' console or PC quality, hence she revealed that said it took the team almost two years to build the game.

"Everything you see in the game -- the characters, the outfits and the weapons -- were built from scratch," she said, adding that they took extra measure to make sure that the characters have certain Asian characteristics to them.

"We are proud of the game, and hopefully, it will put Thailand -- and maybe Southeast Asia -- on the map when it comes to mobile games," she beamed.

Cat Quest 2: The Lupus Empire

If you're an avid mobile gamer, chances are that you would've heard of 'Cat Quest', an action role-playing video game developed by Singapore-based team The Gentlebros. It's been named as one of the best ever games one can play on iOS, according to Touch Arcade.

Set in an open world kingdom called Felingard, the player takes controls of an anthropomorphic cat who embarks on a quest to rescue his kidnapped sister, while battling monsters and exploring dungeons.

"Simply put, it's like 'Skyrim', but with cats," laughed Desmond Wong, the co-founder of The Gentlebros.

When we met Desmond at the preview event, he showed us a little bit of the gameplay of the highly anticipated 'Cat Quest 2', which he said is near completion.

While Desmond has admitted that it will be challenging to emulate the success of the first 'Cat Quest' game -- it was nominated for the 'Mobile Game of the Year' award at the prestigious 21st Annual D.I.C.E. Awards -- he is confident that the sequel will appeal to fans and newcomers alike.

"For one, the map in 'Cat Quest' is way bigger than the one in the first game. Then, there are more quests you could do," he explained.

But what will set 'Cat Quest 2' apart from its predecessor, according to Desmond, is that you can play co-op with a friend.

There's no news yet on when 'Cat Quest 2: The Lupus Kingdom' will be released, but you can click here to download 'Cat Quest' if you haven't already.
