Like the saying goes: when life gives you lemons, throw it back at life’s face.

Despite all the challenges they faced this year, global tech giant HUAWEI is still standing strong and continuing its work in improving its technology, especially when it comes to 5G.

In fact, HUAWEI is leading the 5G race globally, signing around 50 commercial contracts around the world to develop the technology in countries such as South Korea, the United Kingdom, Finland and Switzerland, to name a few.

The 5G race is on!
Venture Beat reported that this will involve the building of 30,000 to 50,000 base stations for each of the three major mobile network providers in China – China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicorn.

This could propel China into becoming the number one country in providing the best 5G coverage, ahead of the United States and South Korea, and that is good news for local companies like HUAWEI that have been rolling out new smartphones that could support 5G technology.

Here’s what you should know about HUAWEI’s 5G movement:

#1 The technology has been well received

The people has been responsive.
HUAWEI’s recent successes have shown that the plans they have for their 5G technology is already bearing fruit.

A Business Times report shows that HUAWEI’s earnings have increased by 23 percent in the first half of 2019, due to high demands in China.

A recent report on Bloomberg quoted HUAWEI’s founder Ren Zhengfei as saying that he was planning a complete restructure of the company, which could take three to five years and help the company to survive.

He also said that when it comes to 5G technology, Huawei has an edge that the United States does not have.

Now, 5G technology is a lot more than just making your internet connections faster.

#2 HUAWEI has spared no expense in 5G R&D

Almost half of its workforce is in R&D.
Between 2009 and 2019, the company had spent up to RMB485bil (RM288bil) on Research and Development. In 2018 alone, they spent RMB101bil (RM60bil) in different sectors that could help the world to be better connected.

Looking at the robust business HUAWEI seem to be having in China and its commitment in Research and Development, it looks like the company will still be able to come on top despite the complications caused by China’s trade war with the United States.

#3 Their 5G technology will be driving the robotics industry

5G tech will be driving robots.
The 5G technology is not just about making your internet connection faster. According to this report by SCMP, the 5G technology will be one of the main components that will be driving the robotics industry.

According to the article, which quoted HUAWEI’s ‘Global Industry Vision’ report that analyses industry development trends, 14 percent of homes will have robots that has multiple functions by 2025.

It is a trend that will help make people’s lives better, and with HUAWEI’s 5G technology, consumers can expect robots to be helping out with household chores, taking care of the elderly and even becoming companions to children.

Remember that futuristic cartoon ‘The Jetsons’ we used to watch as kids? HUAWEI is literally trying to make it a reality.

#4 The 5G technology is making its way to Malaysia

…and soon! In fact, HUAWEI has big plans for the 5G technology in Malaysia.

While their main goal is to help the country grow through the implementation of 5G technology that could benefit all local sectors, HUAWEI hopes to see its technology being implemented in several scenarios in the near future.

This includes in the farming sector, where the 5G technology could help farmers get better yield by detecting soil moisture and acidity in real time.

Another potential sector that could benefit from HUAWEI’s 5G tech is the emergency services, where the tech could be used to improve the efficiency and speed of the services using robotics.

(Interestingly, HUAWEI recently demonstrated their super high tech 5G Tele-surgery, a tech where it allows a doctor to operate on a patient from far away by leveraging on their 5G technology. You can read more about it here)

#5 It will greatly benefit your life

More cool stuff coming for consumers.
We know what you’re thinking: how will the 5G technology benefit you as a consumer?

Well, for starters, HUAWEI’s 5G technology will enable you to stream videos at an extremely high quality (4K and above), as well as super low latency, minimal lag and interruptions when you’re gaming on your mobile.

On a more canggih level, the 5G technology could soon be used for AI drone deliveries, self-driving cars and HD CCTV surveillance.

While we have no idea when all these 5G goodness will be made available in Malaysia, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo told the Malay Mail Online in this report that the government is expecting to roll out the implementation of the 5G network as early as the first quarter of 2020.

The first phase of the roll out, according to Gobind, will be deployed to focal industries, before being made available for the public.

He added that the Ministry had identified a total of 66 cases where 5G could be implemented, including precision farming, smart factory, virtual reality for education and smart city applications.

With the help of HUAWEI’s 5G technology, one thing is for certain: the future is definitely bright.
