6 Best Kid-Friendly Hotels for Your Next Family Staycation in KL
What’s not to like about a family staycation right in the heart of the city? If you’re planning for a family getaway, it’s all about finding that perfect hotel—nice, clean, cozy, and with a little something for everyone. The perfect hotel will offer great facilities not just for the mummies and daddies but for the little ones as well!
Getting the kids pumped for a staycation is a mission I’d gladly accept (Kids are easy to win over!), but when that staycation is at a hotel that’s fun-filled for the bundles of joy (or terror, however you want to look at it), that excitement is taken to a whole new level and can be sustained throughout the entire trip (phew).
Luckily, there are many hotels in KL that keep the interests of children in mind. I’m talking themed rooms, exciting kids’ activities, playgrounds, and pools that might make it a little harder to convince them to leave once the trip is over (there should be a separate guide for that). With that, I’ve gone ahead and compiled an exciting list of the funnest kid-friendly hotels in KL. Keep reading to find out:
1. Hotel Olympic Malaysia
So. Many. Colors. The moment you enter Hotel Olympic Malaysia, the wide array of colors in the lobby itself is sure to pique the interest of the youngins.
Located next to the soon-to-be-opened Merdeka 118 Tower and Pavilion Bukit Bintang being just 1 station away, this Olympic-themed hotel is authorized by the Olympic Council Malaysia and is decorated with colors of the Olympic rings.
This hotel has gone viral recently, and with good reason. Every room has its own color theme to match the hotel’s concept, but what’s even more exciting for the kiddos is the junior suite that’s furnished with 1 Queen bed and 1 children’s double decker shaped as a playhouse! This will keep the kids entertained all day (and possibly night, sorry guys).
Best part is that the Junior Suite rooms start from RM150 per night. For such a low price, you’ll want to book in advance as early as possible, especially since it’s caught the attention of mummies on TikTok.
Hotel Olympic Malaysia, Wisma Ocm, Jalan Hang Jebat, City Centre, 50150 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. Price: From RM150 per night (Junior Suite)
2. Barbie Ultimate Staycation by Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur
Now this one’s got ME excited, and I’m a young child at the mere age of 28. The Barbie Ultimate Staycation by Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is the first of its kind in Malaysia and invites fans old and new to experience “the pink side of life” when they stay in one of the Barbie Themed Rooms at the hotel.
The hotel has dedicated an entire floor to transform 14 rooms into Barbie™ Made in Malibu Rooms and Barbie™ Suite Dreams Suites.
Even their Barbie Cafe is decked out in all things Barbie!
For some extra immersive fun, Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur offers a unique at-home Barbie afternoon tea experience where you and your girlies get to immerse yourselves with the Barbie™ Pink Teatime In A Box for only RM218. You’ll also be accompanied by a complimentary Surprise Barbie doll worth RM59.90. This offer stands while stocks last so you gotta make your booking ASAP.
Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, 12, Jalan Pinang, Kuala Lumpur, 50450 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. Price: From RM1299
3. Shangri-La Hotel
This city hotel is the only one in KL to offer tailored family activities, promising you one of the best family experiences you can get during your staycation. While the millennials and GenXs get to spoil themselves in the luxury comfort of their Family Premier Suite or Family Executive Room, the children get to occupy themselves in a modern tent complete with a “No Parents Allowed” sign. Ha! That will teach ‘em.
If that’s not enough for the little ones, Shangri-La also offers custom-designed themed family rooms to keep your little crew brimming with excitement. Parents can choose from Castle, Space, Treetop, Underwater, Safari, Mermaid, Beach, Winter Wonderland, and Ice House.
Each of these rooms is connected to an adjacent Deluxe Family Room to accommodate a multi-generational household. Families will also enjoy access to a pantry for all their family staycation needs.
But the real highlight is not within closed doors but rather in the great outdoors. The hotel is equipped with an outdoor spiral hedge maze big enough for children to let their imagination (and legs) run wild in.
The hotel also promises a comprehensive family experience for those with Suite/Family Executive Room bookings with Complimentary Weekend Family Activities such as Fish Feeding, Family Yoga, Gardening, Arts & Crafts Workshop, SLKL Junior Chef, Jiggle Wiggle, and Bingo Time.
These activities are available on the weekends between 10am and 5pm with limited slots on a first-come, first-served basis so advance registration is highly recommended!
Family Fun Time has never been funner!
Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur, 11, Jln Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, 50250 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. Price: From RM810 per night
4. Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Center
pullman kl kids hotel
Families who are looking for a staycation with lots of downtime will find themselves settled in at Pullman KLCC. With a space designed to accommodate the needs of the young travelers, the highlight of the kid-friendly 5-star hotel is the Family Residence suite.
Separated into two rooms, the working adults have a private room with a work station to themselves, while the children get to enjoy the brighter interior of the other room, which is equipped with a bunk-bed for two. To accommodate a bigger family, parents also have the option of two additional twin beds.
As the adults busy themselves with work in the adults’ chamber, the kids get to occupy themselves with the TV, PlayStation, games, and more in the comfort of the provided bean bags in their kids’ sanctuary.
With a magnificent view of the hotel’s tropical garden and swimming pool, this one-stop leisure hub houses many facilities that will excite both the parents and children. The older folks get to sit back and relax in the hub’s fitness lounge, poolside bar & grill, or spa while the youngsters can amp themselves up with even more gaming consoles in The Zone (kids’ room) or with family-friendly movies in the home theatre.
If that isn’t enough, Pullman is also giving kids a free holiday until 30 November 2023! For families with bookings of the Family Room, 2-Bedroom Residence, or 1-Bedroom Residence, kids below 12 years old get to stay and dine for free (food and soft beverages only) when accompanied by a paying adult diner. Families are also provided with complimentary parking for one car per room per night.
From RM749, the exclusive package accommodates 2 adults and 2 children with:
  • 2D1N stay (breakfast buffet included)
  • In-room tent experience (subject to availability)
  • RM150 food credit voucher per night (redeemable at all restaurants)
  • Late check-out at 4pm (subject to availability)
  • Kids’ welcome amenities, drawing kit, and decorate-your-own-cupcake session
  • Family moments are best spent with a budget in mind!
Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre - Hotel & Residences, 4, Jalan Conlay, Kuala Lumpur, 50450 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. Price: From RM749 (until 30 November 2023)
5. Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur
Situated between Suria KLCC Mall and Petronas Twin Towers, the 5-star hotel offers a treat for the senses with its beautiful view of the KL skyline and KLCC park.
If you inform the hotel that you'll be checking in with kids, your children will receive free gifts when they arrive which is always exciting for them.
The hotel provides in-room amenities for children, and for Deluxe Room and Executive Park View Room bookings, a complimentary baby cot can be provided upon request. There’s also the option to request an extra bed for kids, though I think if that’s the case, it’s best to go with the Executive Park View room for better space for the whole family.
The best part about this hotel is that it also knows how to treat the PARENTS right. Parents can rest easy knowing they can travel light(-er than usual) as buggies, bathtubs, and kids’ bath products are available upon request. What’s more, if you’re on vacation but you cannot skip that one important Zoom meeting by any means, babysitting services are also available with a minimum 24-hour notice.
But the true highlight of this hotel is the wide range of engaging, educational, and interactive activities for the hotel’s Younger Fans at the Little Explorer Club located on Level 3. In partnership with Wonder Minds, a leading specalist in children’s education and development in Malaysia, children get to learn on the go during playtime hours in the hotel’s very own dedicated kids’ club.
Children (up to the age of 11 years old) of hotel guests are automatic members of the Little Explorer Club and can expect to delight in a variety of activities and services throughout the hotel, including a designated kids’ pool, complimentary buffet dining (up to the age of 4), and even individual coaching lessons at the tennis court! The kids’ activities calendar changes daily and will be available for reference, and while the activities are complimentary, registration is required.
For those who are looking to celebrate a special someone’s birthday during the staycation, the hotel also offers celebration party packaged upon request.
Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur City Centre, 50088 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. Price: From RM893 per night
6. DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside
doubletree putrajaya kids hotel
This newly refurbished hotel is the new talk of the town. With its recent announcement of the completion of its refurbishment, DoubleTree by Hilon Putrajaya Lakeside is excited to share with its guests “The Malaysian Experience.”
This hotel truly is a sight for sore eyes (for the working adults in the city, at least). Perched on the southern end of Putrajaya Lake, the hotel showcases a distinctive architectural blend of diverse cultures. You’ll see four main wings of the hotel, each proudly representing Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Borneo elements. With an authentic experience of Malaysian culture and identity, parents get to educate their kids on their Malaysian heritage and the rich tapestry of Malaysian culture. It’s also a nice break from the tall, modern buildings we get in the city.
Okay. I might be getting ahead of myself. The architecture and educational opportunity might appeal to the older folks, but not so much for the kids. But that’s because I haven’t talked about the hotel’s Splash Pool, which the kids are absolutely going to fall in love with and parents will have to stay at the pool the whole day, I fear.
The Splash Pool is a huge kids’ swimming pool that’s separated into multiple sections for different age groups. There is also a separate pool for adults, so if you ask me, this lakeside retreat seems like the perfect destination for bigger families to unwind and soak in some vitamin D.
So, remember how we’re talking about the Malaysian experience? Well, kids also get to engross themselves with traditional games like Congkak, Hopscotch, and Ketinting for a taste of a classic Malaysian childhood. There is also a Games Room that is supervised at all times, and is equipped with an arcade, board games, and foosball and table tennis amenities.
While the kids lose their sense of time in the Games Room, parents who are gym junkies are able to utilize the well-equipped gym and the hotel’s wellness kit, which includes a yoga mat, relaxing room mist sprays and more.
Among the 14 newly introduced contemporary room categories, families can opt for either the Family Deluxe Room or the King 2-Bedroom Suite. The Family Deluxe room features a separate living and dining area, while the King 2-Bedroom Suite offers a spacious living area, pantry, and two bedrooms.
DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside, 2, Jalan P5/5, Presint 5, 62200 Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya. Price: From RM350 per night
