There are many lesser known budget getaways around the country, and here are some that you can retreat to for less than RM100 per person per night.

The most unique ones would be the cylindrical capsule rooms made of re-purposed giant concrete pipes. Each capsule room sleeps a maximum of two people and prices start at RM139 per capsule.

It may be called a resort, but it’s actually an eco friendly nature’s retreat made almost entirely out of bamboo. Guests can choose to sleep in simple hammocks, tents or choose bamboo huts that offer protection from the elements.

The resort offers a slew of activities for guests, including group barbecues at night as well as sporting equipment that can be used within the resort’s vicinity including basketball, football and volleyball. The sleepy town of Kuala Kubu Bharu is only about 40 minutes away from the city, but not many people venture here. Apart from some hot springs, the town itself consists of only several rows of pre-war shop houses. It’s quiet and rustic, something that will get you in the mood to kick back and not answer phone calls or WhatsApp messages.

The Sticks provides full board and half board meals so you don’t have to leave the camp and venture out to town for food. There are also a host of activities provided on-site like jungle trekking, nature walks, board games and paragliding.

There are many beautiful beaches on the East Coast, and on the borders of Pahang and Terengganu, you’ll find Tanjung Inn. It’s a holiday spot built near the sea and surrounding a lake. They’ve got many lodging options, starting with tents around a pond that are only RM70 a night and fits two.

If you’ve always wanted to visit Mongolia and run with the ponies on the Mongolian steppes, but somehow just haven’t found the chance, here’s a closer alternative. About 2.8 km or about nine minutes drive from Kundasang town is a bunch of Mongolian Yurts or tents called Wind Paradise.

Back to nature also means back to basics. Bamboo Village is one of those places you go when you just don’t want to be reminded of the trappings of modern life. Ironically enough, it’s located at Hulu Langat, which is pretty near to KL.
7) Bamboo Village, Hulu Langat, Selangor (Starting at RM 45 per pax)

The website is pretty clear about the fact that Bamboo Village is a nature retreat and there aren’t any air-conditioners in the rooms. Bathrooms are shared in a common area and you can rent whole cottages for about RM120 (fits groups of five or more) or book yourself a spot in the dorm for just RM45 a night.

If you’re not an outdoorsy person, you can always hang out in the common areas where you can interact with other visitors, or take a dip in the wading pool. Meals are communally prepared in the open air kitchen or visitors can pop out to the nearby town for a meal.
