Barbie the movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling only hits Malaysian cinemas on 20 July 2023 but Barbiecore, the pink aesthetic already started spreading far and wide since last year. Barbie is arguably the most hyped-about movie of the year, and its marketing team has seemingly been working overtime to launch endless lines of collaborative merchandise collections.
This writer grew up playing with Barbies and my collection of dolls is still lying around the house somewhere because they’re simply too precious to give away. So, if you’re like me and you’re looking for all the ways to spend money on Barbie merch even though you’re kind of too old *ahem* to be playing with dolls, here are all the collections and experiences you need to keep an eye out for:
1. Barbie x Cotton:On
If you want to look just as stylish as Barbie, why not get dolled up in looks that are inspired by the iconic doll? Head out in one of their cute crop tops bearing the Barbie logo and don their bright pink flip-flops. They even have a line for kids so that you can be matchy-matchy with your child if you want to.

2. Barbie x TYPO
Part of the Cotton on Group is TYPO, its range of accessories and lifestyle products. This is your chance to turn your place into Barbie’s dreamhouse in real life with candles, pencil cases, and even a bright pink and orange bath mat to add a splash of colour to your room. Apparently, people were grabbing the items like hotcakes when they hit KL stores, and half the items were already sold out when we went to the Penang store, so you better run, don’t walk there.

3. Barbie x ALDO
A teaser for the movie went viral after Margot Robbie stepped out of her high heels with an unnaturally and perfectly arched foot like the doll. While we don’t recommend trying the pose out on your own, what you can do is add accessories, handbags, and shoes from ALDO so that you can up your fashion game.
The 19-piece limited edition collection will be available from 29 June at ALDO Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
4. Barbie x Fossil
Add some sparkle and pink to your life with Fossil’s timepieces, leather accessories, and Barbie-themed jewellery. We especially love the hot pink Barbie crossbody bag that you can easily fit an iPhone Pro Max or a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra in and all the other bits and bobs you need to look fabulous! We also dig the Three-Hand Date Black LiteHide Leather watch with symbols including a specially cut crystal flower charm, a vibrant pink pointed-toe heel, a roller skate, and a timeless pink car.

5. Barbie x O.P.I
If you want to look like Barbie from head to toe (even your nails), you can quite literally do so with this collection of nail polish. The glam collab features exclusive shimmers, glitters, and crème nail polish shades inspired by the new movie. You’ll wow everyone you meet and plus, the shades have cute names like ‘Hi Ken!’ and ‘My Job is Beach.’

6. Barbie x Forever 21
You may not stay Forever 21, but this collection will help you to look fresh and cute wherever you go. The brand has already collaborated with Barbie before but this time, they’re going big with 76 pieces of items including categories such as sleepwear, accessories, and swimwear. Marble rectangle sunglasses and rhinestone-encrusted water bottles will help you to have the best summer ‘fits amongst your pals.
7. Shopee & Lazada: Dolls and Playsets
When you’re young you call them dolls, but as you get older, they become collector’s items, right? Barbie’s flagship store is available on Shopee and Lazada with dolls and playsets just like the ones in the feature film. This Pink Western outfit doll which bears the likeness of Margot Robbie with an eye-catching matching vest and V-waist flare jeans will make your life just a bit more fantastic. Meanwhile, if you can’t afford a full-sized one, why not add a Pink Corvette Convertible that looks like it cruised off the big screen to your collection?
8. PerySmith x Barbie
Barbie’s hair always looks perfectly coiffed, and she always has a 1000-watt smile. It comes in pink and features the Barbie logo to make hair care and oral care fun. Best of all, it’s packaged in a stunning collectable box.
9. Barbieland at GSC LaLaPort BBCC
If you don’t really want to fork out money for merch, then head over to GSC LaLaPort Bukit Bintang City Centre to experience the movie instead. According to GSC’s official page, Barbie Land will open on 18 July, but there are no other details yet, so follow their page for more details.
They posted a teaser video of Margot Robbie saying, “Hi, Malaysia! Barbie is taking over Kuala Lumpur and PJ. Have fun spotting pink and I’ll see you in cinemas this July.”
