AirAsia Is Suspending Selected Routes To Iran, Thailand, And Philippines In 2018
Dear wanderlusters and adventure-seekers, we’ve got some bad news for you if you travel frequently with AirAsia.
If you’ve planned a tropical trip to Boracay or Koh Samui via Surat Thani or a cultural trip to Tehran, you might want to reconsider your options.
According to Places and Foods, it has been confirmed that AirAsia will suspend routes to Surat Thani, Kalibo-Boracay, and Tehran until further notice.
Apparently, some travelers have already received notification regarding the suspension from the low-cost airline and were give three options; to reschedule their flights to an earlier date, convert their flight ticket to store credit or receive a full refund.

No reason or formal statement has been issued by AirAsia so far following the suspension annoucement.
The last flights for the suspended routes are – Surat Thani, Thailand on 25 February 2018, Kalibo-Boracay, Philippines on 24 March 2018, and Tehran, Iran on 20 April 2018.
Rojak Daily did a quick check on AirAsia's website and we can confirm that flights after the suspension dates are no longer available.

It comes with great surprise that AirAsia will be suspending these routes considering some routes were quite recently introduced. The Kuala Lumpur – Tehran route was introduced back in May 2016.
Some people have been speculating that load factor may contribute to the suspension while others think that AirAsia is planning to launch new routes.
Whatever happens in the future, we hope nothing but the best for AirAsia. And if you still want to travel to those three routes, it looks like you will need to succumb to other potentially pricier airlines.
