Recently, it was announced that French luxury brand Dior had unveiled a pop-up of its Dioriviera collection along with an accompanying café at Pavilion KL. The highly anticipated event, held at the One&Only Desaru Coast last year, will be held until 21 July. However, TikTok user @keniminaj, who is based in Singapore and Malaysia and has 376.8K likes on TikTok, posted a video of his disappointing experience at the café and captioned it, “Proof money doesn’t come with taste.”
He wrote a lengthy caption to accompany the video, ranking different aspects of the café.

Food & Drinks

Chef Raymond Tham, who is behind the 1-Michelin Star Beta and Michelin Selected restaurant Skillet, created a unique menu with Dior’s signature patterns and Malaysian flavours. The menu prices were naturally exorbitant, with the most expensive item being the Lychee & Rose Cake at RM80.

Keni ordered the Hojicha with Milk Chocolate Mousse, priced at RM70 per piece. He said, “It’s not a mousse, (the) texture inside is gelatin-like…tastes cheap." The Dior print on the cake was beautiful, but he dubbed it the “most disappointing cake" and ranked it 3/10.
He also ordered the Harumanis Mango with Gula Melaka (RM70); the only good thing he had to say was that it was colourful. He explained that all the elements in the cake didn’t seem to mix. The white cream cheese ring holding the mangoes together was uneven, and he said he’d had better and more fragrant Harumanis elsewhere. Everyone at his table pushed aside the cream cheese because of the unpleasant aftertaste and ranked it 4.5/10.

However, Keni said he loved the Peanut Butter Mousse with Corn Cremeux (RM70) and said it was beautiful to look at and tasted balanced. He rated it 8/10. He also enjoyed the cocktail, which looked stunning and tasted delicious.
Overall, Keni said that the “food quality is really mid…when you know it’s a 1-Michelin Star restaurant in KL, the expectation for its finesse and presentation is really heightened, only to be overwhelmed.” However, he praised the intricately created latte with the iconic Toile de Jouy and a radiant Soleil motif.

Booking Process & Service

Keni complained about the booking process being extremely unclear. “All the media releases sent to online articles and influencers just say ‘click here’ to book, but it leads to a generic Dior website address,” he wrote. He even had to use his contacts at Dior to get a spot. When he arrived, he had to wait 30 minutes for his table despite having a reservation. He was then asked to vacate the table after less than half an hour, but this was later rectified.
However, he said that the service was mostly good, and there were people to shield them from the rain with umbrellas as they walked in.

Ambience

Keni had nothing but praise for the luxurious ambience of the outdoor area in front of Dior at Pavilion KL, which was completely decked out in Dior print. Even the coasters and thick napkins came with the logo, and the seats were made with Dior prints.
Overall, Keni, who paid RM390 for the bill, said that he regretted it and couldn’t make his friends pay for “this atrocious tea session”, so he footed the bill to apologise to them. He said, "Everything was great except for the food…the décor is mindblowing, but we CANNOT eat the décor, right?”
Other TikTok users chimed in with comments like, “Don’t worry, this is consistent with Dior cafe food worldwide. Even the Paris flagship Dior restaurant serves mid-food.” Another said, “I literally couldn’t find the reservation on their website, and it was just too much hassle, so oh well.”
