- A Chinese delivery rider flew from China to Singapore to buy curry puffs for a customer willing to pay RM1,446 for the trip.
- The businessman had previously tried the snack in Singapore and craved it enough to cover the rider's flight cost, despite the curry puffs costing only RM43.
- Some netizens doubted the story's authenticity, but the woman who met the rider confirmed it was a genuine, unsponsored encounter.
Have you ever had a food craving so strong that you'd be willing to travel for it?
One man in China certainly did. However, instead of travelling himself to satisfy the craving, he paid a delivery rider to fly to another country just to buy the food he had been longing for.
According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), a Chinese national living in Singapore spotted a delivery rider wearing a Meituan uniform at PLQ Mall. For context, Meituan is China's largest on-demand food delivery platform, and its riders are easily recognisable by their bright yellow uniforms.

The woman, identified as Chloe, recalled noticing the rider waiting at Hong Lim Curry Puff, a snack shop in PLQ Mall located about 17 minutes from Changi Airport.
Curious about the situation, Chloe approached the rider after noticing he was struggling to communicate with the shop staff due to the language barrier.
During their conversation, she discovered that he had flown from China to Singapore to fulfil a "cross-border order".
The rider explained that a customer, a businessman from China, had previously tried the shop's curry puffs during a visit to Singapore. Craving the snack so much, the businessman was reportedly willing to pay 2,400 yuan (RM1,446) for the rider's flight ticket just so he could enjoy them again.

Despite the hefty delivery cost, the curry puffs themselves cost only SGD13.50 (RM43).
Netizens question whether the encounter was staged
While many found the story remarkable, given how much the businessman spent on a snack from another country, some internet users questioned the authenticity of the encounter.
Some even speculated that the incident may have been staged as part of a marketing campaign.
However, Chloe has since clarified that the encounter was entirely coincidental. She said she did not receive any sponsorship and was not hired to film or share the video online.
