Famous Penang Air Itam Laksa became the latest casulty of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the shop closing its doors indefinitely for the first time since 1955.

Having survived for about 66 years in the business, even the shop that has been passed down from generation to generation couldn't survive the never-ending Movement Control Orders (MCO).

Closed till further notice

In a Facebook post on 12 May 2021, the business announced that it was hard to continue operating due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the latest MCO.

"Therefore, we would like to inform that we will be taking a break soon until further notice," the Facebook posts shows.

The last day of operations for Penang Air Itam Laksa is on Tuesday (18 May), the shop said in a separate Facebook post on Monday (17 May).

Sad news indeed.
This is definitely sad news for all food lovers, as the shop is arguably one of the most famous Penang laksa joints on the island, if not the whole of Malaysia.

We hope that things will go back to normal soon and businesses that have been affected severely by the pandemic will recover.
