First Dog-Friendly Café Opens In Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia is a well-known Islamic country and one where dogs are generally banned from public places.
However, in a surprising move, the country now has its first ever dog-friendly café much to the delight of pet owners.
According to a AFP report, the café called ‘The Barking Lot’ opened its doors in June in the coastal town of Khobar.
Personal experiences led to the opening of the cafe
The café’s owner Dalal Ahmed — a Kuwait national — said she got the idea of a dog-friendly cafe during a previous visit to the country.
“I came to Saudi Arabia for a visit with my dog but wasn't allowed to walk on the beach with him.
“I was very sad and decided to help by opening a coffee shop for people who have dogs - and even for those who do not,” she told AFP.
Among the services offered in the café is grooming services. Although 'The Barking Lot' is a dog cafe, other pets are welcome too.
The report said Saudi Arabia’s ban on walking of pets in public has been lifted and pets are becoming an increasingly common sight.
Don't worry if you don't own a pet. You can still visit the cafe and enjoy looking at other pets.
If you're ever in Saudi Arabia, maybe you'll want to add 'The Barking Lot' to your list of places to visit especially if you're a pet lover.
