Game On! Astro Kem Badminton 2025 is on the Hunt for M'sia's Next Shuttle Stars
Astro, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (KPM) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), has officially launched Astro Kem Badminton 2025 (AKB 2025) a nationwide initiative aimed at discovering Malaysia’s next badminton prodigies.
The launch event, held at SJK(C) Tsun Jin, was nothing short of electrifying, with over 700 enthusiastic students participating in a badminton clinic that marked the beginning of this exciting journey.
A nationwide search for young talent
AKB 2025 is more than just a sports camp, it’s a grassroots movement targeting children aged 10 to 12 (born between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2015), with the goal of nurturing raw talent and instilling the spirit of sportsmanship. This year, the programme will make its way to Sabah, Johor, Penang, and Selangor, where top-performing players will be selected to attend the prestigious KL Selection Camp.

Building the future of Malaysian sports
The KL Selection Camp promises a five-day immersive experience where selected players will train under professional coaches, simulating the routines of national athletes. It’s a golden opportunity for these young hopefuls to chase their dreams and get a taste of what it takes to be a professional badminton player.
Meanwhile, this year’s edition of AKB comes with an exciting twist, the best players from the KL camp will be selected to train at the Banthongyord Badminton School in Thailand. This world-renowned institution has produced champions like Ratchanok Inthanon, Thailand’s first World Champion in 2013. Under the guidance of elite Thai coaches, Malaysian players will gain exposure to international training methods and elevate their game to new heights.
Astro’s commitment to sports goes beyond broadcasting. As the Home of Sports, Astro is deeply invested in uplifting the local sports ecosystem through initiatives like AKB. “This added experience will be an incredible opportunity to gain international exposure for our future athletes,” Astro shared.

Tan Peng Koon, Director of Universal Sports, echoed this sentiment:
“We are proud to collaborate in supporting Astro Kem Badminton 2025, a meaningful initiative that nurtures young Malaysian talent and promotes the spirit of sportsmanship. Together with Astro, we are united in our vision to elevate grassroots badminton and help shape the future of the sport in Malaysia.”
