Genji at Hilton Petaling Jaya Reveals Stunning New Look & Welcomes Renowned Japanese Head Chef
Genji at Hilton Petaling Jaya has recently undergone a remarkable transformation, unveiling a stunning new look featuring a contemporary design that harmoniously blends tradition with modern elegance that promises to elevate the dining experience to new heights.
Additionally, the restaurant has welcomed Kunihiko Hamada, a renowned Japanese head chef celebrated for his refined techniques and commitment to authentic Japanese flavours with years of experience in celebrated kitchens across Japan and beyond.

His expertise in balancing classic flavours with innovative and artistic presentation is showcased in Genji’s newly introduced seasonal spring à la carte menu, featuring a selection of meticulously crafted dishes that highlight the finest seasonal ingredients.
Here’s what you can expect from the newly revamped Genji at Hilton Petaling Jaya.
Blending modern elegance with timeless tradition
The newly facelifted decor at Genji, Hilton Petaling Jaya, masterfully blends modern elegance with timeless tradition, creating an ambiance that is both sophisticated and inviting. It features a 50-seat main dining area and seven private rooms—including Tatami and Western-style settings.
Sleek, contemporary design elements such as minimalist furniture and chic lighting fixtures harmonise seamlessly with traditional Japanese aesthetics, including shoji screens and intricate woodwork.

The use of natural materials and a soothing colour palette further enhances the serene atmosphere. This thoughtful fusion of styles not only pays homage to Japanese heritage but also offers a fresh, contemporary dining experience for diners.
Spring à la carte menu
To start things off, we were offered the Umi No Sachi Sunomono Salad, which consists of an assortment of marinated seafood, seaweed, and vegetables refined with yuzu orange-flavoured vinaigrette sauce.
This refreshing appetiser features vibrant colours and delicate presentation of the salad mirrored the restaurant's decor, making it a feast for both the eyes and the palate.
Next up, we were presented with their Kuchidori (assortment of delicacies). This includes such as Kaki Chilli Mayo, Nama-Uni To Zuwaigani Kanimiso-Ae, and Tsubugai Shutou-Miso-Ae.

The Kaki Chilli Mayo consisted of grilled oyster with blended spicy Genji mayonnaise, creating a delightful balance of smoky, savoury flavours and a subtle kick of heat.
Meanwhile, the Nama-Uni To Zuwaigani Kanimiso-Ae consisted of sea urchin and steamed snow crab meat infused with chef’s crab tomalley sauce.
The creamy texture of the sea urchin paired perfectly with the delicate sweetness of the snow crab, while the tomalley sauce added a depth of flavour that elevated the entire dish. The third dish, Tsubugai Shutou-Miso-Ae, includes whelk dressed with chef’s bonito miso paste.
The next dish, Otsukuri, is an assortment of sliced fresh raw fish sashimi, carefully selected by the chef. Each piece of sashimi is meticulously prepared to ensure the highest quality and freshness.

We were next presented with a trio of dishes, which included Ginmutsu Soramame-Sauce Yuuan Mushi (steamed yuuan soy-marinated snow fish, refined with broad bean sauce), Teppan-Yaki Gyuniku Tender-Loin Goshyusan Chef No Wafu Steak Sauce Zitate (teppan-grilled Australian beef tenderloin refined with chef’s signature Japanese steak sauce), and Miwaku No Sushi To Chawan-Mushi Jitate No Suimono (chef’s selection of assorted sushi served with seafood clear soup over steamed egg custard with sea bream, prawn, chicken, and scallop).
Among these exquisite dishes, a personal favourite of ours was the Teppan-Yaki Gyuniku Tender-Loin Goshyusan Chef No Wafu Steak Sauce Zitate. The tender, juicy beef paired with the flavourful Japanese steak sauce was simply outstanding, making it a standout dish in an already impressive lineup.
The night was capped off with the decadent Muskmelon Parfait that perfectly balances sweetness and freshness. This parfait is not only visually appealing but also a perfect ending to a meal.
