We know how mundane life has been for some of you; trapped in your own house for almost an entire year and forced to stay grounded because we can't fly to another country.
We also know that most of you just can't wait to go out and have some fun under the sun, lay down by the beach with your friends and family, or maybe hit a theme park to feel alive.
If you're looking forward to the latter, we have some good news for you.

Time for some fun

The theme park under development back in 2020. After several years of turmoil, Resorts World Genting (RWG) is looking all set to final be open their outdoor theme park.
In an e-mail invite sent out to Rojak Daily, the hilltop resort teased that "something exciting is happening up in the sky".
RWG also promised that we will be "one of the first to take a sneak preview of Southeast Asia’s most anticipated theme park", which sounds like a confirmation that they are indeed set to open their much-anticipated outdoor theme park.
According to Genting, the theme park this new theme park will be part of RWG’s integrated entertainment line-up.
A copy of the media invitation. A source confirmed to Rojak Daily that the invite is indeed for the launch of a theme park called Genting SkyWorlds which is located in the heart of the hilltop resort.
When asked about the official opening date of the theme park, the source told us that he can't divulge any additional information for now as the plans are still under wraps.
He did, however, say that theme park will be opened to the public "very soon".
This lines up with a previous report by The Edge Markets in June last year, which confirmed that RWG's outdoor theme park will be opening in the second quarter of 2021.
If every thing goes according to the timeline, we can expect the theme park to be fully opened to the public by June 2021 (or as soon as February, but it's highly unlikely considering the current MCO situation).

It's been a long journey

It was supposed to look like this. The journey to completing the theme park, which was announced back in 2013, has been a very hard one.
It was supposed to be the only functioning 20th Century Fox theme park in the world and the first in Asia, but in 2018, Fox Entertainment terminated their agreement with Genting when Disney bought over the entertainment company.
Genting then filed a USD1.75 billion (RM7.49 billion) lawsuit against Disney and Fox for trying to back out of the deal.
In January 2019, Fox filed a USD46 million (RM196 million) countersuit against Genting, blaming the resort for the deal falling through.
After going to court for almost a year, Genting and Fox finally came to an agreement, and as part of their new deal, Genting would be given “a license to use certain Fox intellectual properties”.

What can we expect from the theme park

As you can guess by the new name Genting has given to the upcoming theme park, it will no longer carry the '20th Century Fox' branding.
However, if you're a fan of movies like 'Minions' and 'Planet Of The Apes', there is some sort of good news for you.
Although Genting dropped 20th Century Fox from the name of the new theme park, visitors can still expect to see attractions based on some of the film stodio's movies, as well as other "international class" movies.
But we will have to wait and see what these movies are.
All we know is that we can't wait for the theme park to be finally opened. We really do miss going on roller coasters.
