How Old Are You, Mentally?

Hello Writer 12/06/2020 | 07:02 MYT

Have you ever feel like you don’t belong in the age group that you are now? It’s either you feel like an old soul or maybe a little too childish for your age. Well, this phenomenon is not rare, most of us do feel that way.

If two person was born on the same date but goes through two completely different upbringings in terms of their education, family affection, traumas, socioeconomic and social factors, they will walk out 20 years later as people with different mental age despite being 20 years old.

Curious about yours? Check out this quiz!

Being stuck in an age that you don’t fit in does make you feel a little miserable. Say you’re a 20 year old but you feel more mature. It is highly unlikely that you would be able to be taken seriously just because of your age even though you may bring fruitful ideas to the table.

And if you feel younger than you actually are, you would have troubles in adapting to adulthood and all the responsibilities that comes with it. This is much more common among young adults starting their first job. You are dumped with all sorts of expectations when you are just trying to navigate the world.

Our mental age if anything proves our state of health. If you relate to being older than you actually are, there’s a chance that you feel more vulnerable and depressed. A study in the Journal of Psychosomatic Medicine reveals that your subjective age can better predict your health than the date on your birth certificate.

And to those feeling younger, your approach to life is a lot healthier as you enjoy and tend to be more involved in many physical activities. Your higher enthusiasm does make you feel more positive in the way that you look at any situations.

But mental illness preys on any age, so be sure to always look out for signs that you might need help to escape the monsters in your mind.

Mental illness should not be a taboo. Daniella Sya and Wani Ardy has a lot to weigh in about mental illness in this episode of What’s The Feed.
