I Had a Tarot Reading Session with Sarah May Low, a Professional Astrologer That Got Me Shook
If you’re reading this, means you’re either a full-on sceptic like me or a believer of all things cartomancy and astrology.
For newbies, tarot card reading is a popular form of cartomancy that helps people navigate themselves through life. You might’ve seen the usage of these cards in films and tv series such as Charmed, Pretty Little Liars, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Mad Men and Roger Moore’s Live & Let Die. However, tarot reading culture received some new-found loving from Gen Zs on Twitter and TikTok recently.
Frankly, I never had an interest in tarot cards or even horoscopes before as I never grew up with such elements.
Weirdly now I’m surrounded by believers and practitioners so when Sarah May Low, a credible astrologer, invited me for a tarot card reading session, I told myself, ‘why not, right?’.
According to the astrologer herself, Sarah was called the ‘No.1 Tarot Reader in Malaysia’ and was heavily featured in media before. She’s even endorsed by Snapchat as a pro in Western Astrology! So in pop culture terms, she is no padawan - but a Jedi Master.
Before the session, she asked for two critical pieces of information that really defined my experience with her: my birthday and birth time. Unfortunately for her, I was swamped with work and replied her two days before the reading. Despite that, she still managed to construct, or in this case, ‘conjure’, a comprehensive report-like document of my birth chart and tarot card reading based on my birthday and time only (bear in mind, she doesn’t know who I was prior to our e-meet).
This is what it looks like:
Okay a quick fact check for you: a sun sign reflects your outward personality whereas your moon sign explores more of your mood and emotions. Ascendant represents your social personality, Mercury determines your communication style and Venus portrays your passion and desires. Now, this is when it gets eerily accurate.
I’ve always known I’m a Capricorn. According to a few credible sites, Capricorns are known hustlers, who are very goal-oriented, practical and ambitious - for all the good and bad reasons. Somehow, these values do represent me as I am in fact a goal-driven individual in my pursuits. This information was not new to me.
However, my Moon sign is Pisces. Moon Pisces are known to be artistic, highly-intuitive and romantic. Which surprised me a bit because besides writing articles for you, I’m also a musician who writes original music. Proud of my artistic side, I usually express my need for romance through songwriting. Again, Sarah was not aware of this information, so this is purely accidental - or is it?
Secondly, my Mercury is also Capricorn. Apparently, I’m a tough person with dark humor? At times without confidence or self-assurance? How did she know this just by assessing my birth date and time?!
Moving on to the tarot card reading; she pulled a card that resonates with me a lot: The Emperor.
The Emperor suggests that I hold a father-figure role in my life, whether in my family or friend group. The card also emphasizes my strength in leadership roles, my yearning for stability, and my passion for strategy. Pulling an Emperor card indicates that your hard work will be noticed and I will reap the rewards of it (bosses, if you’re reading this, it’s a good sign for a bonus or a raise).
Of course, the Emperor has its strengths and weaknesses. There are obvious things I need to work on but the tarot helps me identify those for me to become a better professional, creative, family member and person.
At the end of the session, I still am not a full believer of horoscopes and tarot cards. The most interesting part of the session is that a stranger like Sarah May Low, understands me on a deeper level, more than some of my close friends - with only my birth date and time. Will I firmly hold these information to my heart and use it to my advantage? Not rigidly, but I don’t see why not.
