The past couple of weeks, VIP convoys forcing emergency services to give way to them have been the hot topic in the country:

Thankfully, there is a world leader out there who is sensible enough to do the right thing.

The right thing to do

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has drawn praises online after a video clip of his convoy giving way to an ambulance went viral online.

According to Kompas, the 29-second video was taken from inside the ambulance, which was reportedly heading towards a hospital located in Grobongan, Central Java.

The video shows the ambulance passing through a tight street and the police officers at the front of the President's motorcade can be seen waving the emergency vehicle through as the motorcade gave way.

Further down the road, the ambulance passed the President's motorcade made up of almost 20 vehicles, which can be seen stopped at the right side of the road to let the ambulance through.

The President's action drew praises from netizens, with many applauding Widodo for his thoughtful gesture.

The regent of Grobongan, Sri Sumarni, shared the video on her personal Instagram page to thank the President for visiting the regency.

Ambulance driver stunned by President's gesture

The driver of the ambulance, Septian, told Kompas that initially, he didn't think that the President's motorcade would give way to him.

"At first, I thought that I should give way (to the motorcade).

"Then, I realised that I had a patient (in my ambulance) that required urgent attention," he was quoted as saying.

Sigh, if only some of our VIPs know what's the right thing to do, kan?
