Instagram Wants To Make Itself A Safer And Nicer Place With These New Updates
Instagram just hit the 800 million-user mark and to celebrate this milestone, it wants to make its platform a safer and nicer place with an upcoming rollout of new features.
We're sure most of us have had our share of offensive comments in our Instagram posts. So for starters, you will soon have better control over who can and cannot comment on your posts, especially for users with public accounts.
Previously, the only option you had was to either allow comments from everyone or disable comments altogether. Now, you can limit comments to only accounts you follow, your followers, or both.
Whether your account is private or public, you will also be able to block comments from specific accounts to cut down unwanted harassment or abuse on your posts.
Furthermore, the new update will also come with improved mental health resources, including a new anonymous reporting feature for live video. This will allow users to report when somebody they’re watching looks like they need help. They will then receive message popup with several resources links, including a helpline.
And last but not least, over the next few months, Instagram will introduce a set of ‘kindness’ stickers to encourage users to post more positive comments.
The company said in a blog post that this next series of updates is part of an ongoing effort to “keep Instagram a safe and positive place for self-expression”.
Now that the app has grown to 800 million users and 500 million active users daily, Instagram feels that it is now more important than ever to create a safe and welcoming environment.
So let's all make the world a better place, one Instagram post (or story) at a time!
