With the Covid-19 pandemic raging around the world, we hardly meet our relatives and friends, let alone with their newborns.

The Japanese have come up with a way to overcome this.

It may not be exactly like holding a newborn that is alive and kicking, but close!

According to a report in Guardian, Japanese parents are introducing their newborns to relatives living far away, with a new method.

Even the babies' faces are added to it!

Looks legit
The Japenese send bags of rice that look and weigh the same as their newborns, to their relatives’ houses. The rice bags are known as 'Dakigokochi'.

The parents wrap up the rice bags in blankets, so that it look like bundled up babies.

They can even customise it by having their newborn’s face and name printed on it.

When filled with rice, it almost as comforting as holding a baby.
Guess this is more budget friendly?

The report said the price of the rice bags is based on a newborn’s birth weight. The heavier the newborn, the more expensive the rice bag and usually a 3.5-kilogram rice bag is sold for RM134.

Cute but we do hope that the rice don't end up going to waste.
