If you are a fresh graduate looking for a job, basic etiquette should be practiced especially when you're enquiring about a job you are interested in.

While we believe that most of us know how to be courteous and polite, it’s disheartening to know that there are still some who does not have the slightest clue.

'Did you go to university?'

A hiring manager recently had a rude encounter with a local fresh graduate seeking a job with a digital marketing agency, and screenshots of the conversation had gone viral online.

The screenshots were reportedly shared by Facebook user Hara Lee, the sister of the recruiter with Wolves Digital.

At the beginning of the conversation, the fresh graduate can be seen enquiring about the position of a senior content creator at the agency, but specifically focusing on the starting pay and working hours.

The beginning of the conversation.
The recruiter then asked for the applicant’s portfolio and curriculum vitae, to which the graduate offered to show their "FYP" instead because they do not possess a portfolio yet.

Not knowing what FYP stands for, the recruiter asked the applicant what an FYP is (final year project, in case you're also wondering), to which the applicant replied: "It's Final Year Project to get a university degree".

The applicant then decided to throw shade at the recruiter, remarking: "Did you go to university?"

The nerve, right?

That not-so-gracious mic drop tho.
The recruiter, who we assume was massively ticked off at the time (we would be, to be honest with you), then proceeded to ask the fresh grad where they got his number from.

To the recruiter's surprise, the fresh graduate demanded that the recruiter answer their question about the starting pay and flexi working hours to see if "this job meet my expectation or not".

Following that, the recruiter informed the fresh graduate that he was the co-founder of the company, and asked him to work on his character development if he were to join the industry.

The reply that came back was: "Kthx".

Agency's co-founder responds

After Hara's post went viral -- it got 8,700 likes and 15,000 shares on Facebook, Wolves Digital’s co-founder Samson Knight related the incident to Malay Mail.

"When I first got the text, I actually didn't know to be angry, or to laugh because there wasn’t any proper introduction, which already reflects on what kind of person the applicant is.

"I was actually planning to give the applicant an opportunity for an interview, however after some talks, I’ve decided to forego it as I could see no real effort," he said.

Knight told the news portal that this was not the first time he's encountered such an applicant, but he does not think that Gen-Z has an attitude and behavior problem; but rather, a problem of the individual themselves.

Let this be a lesson to all of you who are seeking jobs out there. As the saying goes, 'Manners maketh man'.
