We are sure everyone knows about ‘Journey To The West’, a story of Xuanzang, a Chinese monk who travels to India and returns with the teachings of Buddha.

The story, which is probably famous because of Sun Wukong or the Monkey King, a mischievous yet powerful monkey, has been turned into movies, books and television series.

Now, the epic story is getting honoured by LEGO.

Inspired by the legendary tale

According to a report in Mashable SEA, the company recently released its LEGO Monkie Kid line.

Released on 16 March, LEGO Monkie Kid features eight sets, an animated mini movie, and TV series.

The LEGO Monkie Kid is about the namesake character who discovers the legendary staff of the Monkey King and he ultimately becomes the chosen one.

Together with his brave and loyal friends, Monkie Kid begins his quest to stop the Demon Bull King and his army of Bull Clones from taking over the city.

Simon Lucas, the Senior Design Director at the LEGO Group, said in a statement that he was inspired by China’s rich history and culture to create the set.

In fact, this is the first ever LEGO theme to be inspired by a Chinese legend.

"The epic stories and incredible characters have been a huge inspiration to the LEGO design team and me.

"It is with deepest respect for Chinese culture and the 500-year-old legend that we have created the next chapter in the story of the Monkey King – The Monkie Kid,” he said.

The good news is, you can get your hands on the LEGO Monkie Kid LEGO sets online and in other LEGO stores now.
