Nurul Aina Abu Bakar, who works as a waitress at a Secret Recipe outlet in Shah Alam, has been using her skills to creatively decorate cakes.

Instead of focusing on drawing or sketching, Nurul Aina chooses to focus on colours around her for her works of art.

Hard work pays off

Among her most praised works include her cakes with illustrations of the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and an image of frontline workers.

Nurul told Malay Mail that it look her about an hour to come up with the design for the image of the Queen, which she made in conjunction with her 60th birthday.

“But the image of frontliners took me less than two hours as it was a group picture and that meant more details.

“The hardest part about colouring is fitting the right colour-schemes and being selective in the choice of colours,” she was quoted as saying.

Nurul Aina, who has a diploma in hotel management and catering from Cybernetics International College of Technology, also said that she has never taken any formal cake decorating classes.

“I wanted to join professional classes but the movement control order (MCO) halted many physical classes and as such, I learned from online platforms.”

Her hard work and creativity paid off when her superior decided to promote her to the position of service coordinator after she received praises from customers.

On top of the promotion, she also received a certificate and cash as a reward for her remarkable cake-decorating skills.
