Malaysian Swimmer Becomes Internet Sensation In China Because Of His Dashing Good Looks
The 2020 Olympics are ongoing in Tokyo, and viewers around the world are exposed to athletes from another part of the globe that they've probably never heard of.
One Malaysian athlete has become an internet celebrity overnight thanks to his handsome good looks.
Malaysia's 'Flying Fish' prince
The athlete in question is none other than swimmer Welson Sim, who's representing Malaysia in the 200m and 400m freestyle events.
The 24-year-old has caught the eyes of many on Chinese social media platform Weibo, who praised Sim for having 'princely' features.
Sim’s photos were plastered all over the platform, especially in the #奥运会真的好出神颜啊 (translated to 'Olympics has many god-like faces’) channel.
The channel has over 360 million views to date.
In fact, screenshots of Sim at the opening ceremony, which took place on Friday (23 July), were also circulated on the social media platform, with netizens commenting that even wearing a face mask could not hide the athlete's attractive features.
Over on Twitter, Sim has also been setting hearts aflutter:

Sim got his big break when he represented Malaysia at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA games, where he won gold medals in the men's 200m and 400m freestyle categories.
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Sim is one of only two swimmers to represent the country in the event, the other being Phee Jinq En.
Imagine how popular Welson Sim would be if his pretty face brings home Malaysia's first ever gold medal. We are all rooting for you, Flying Fish Prince!
