Malaysians Will Get To Experience Partial Lunar Eclipse This August
Shutterbugs, astronomy lovers; we’ve got some news that send you over the moon! Literally.
We Malaysians will have the chance to experience the partial eclipse of the moon on 7 August from 11.50pm to 4.50am the next day.
The National Space Agency (Angkasa) issued a statement on Thursday citing those who are interested in witnessing this phenomenon with the most optimum experience can do so by using the aid of telescopes and optical instruments.
So, how does this phenomenon occur?
It happens when the Earth moves between the sun and the moon but not in a perfectly straight line.
The sun’s rays are then partially blocked by the Earth causing part of the moon’s surface to be covered by the Earth’s shadow called the umbra.
The last time Malaysia experience a partial moon eclipse was back in March 2016.
So, save the date and make sure you’ve got all your equipment set and ready!
