This M’sian Visited ALL 175 Malls in the Greater Klang Valley & Ranked Them From Best to Worst
It is common knowledge that there are way too many malls in KL and Selangor, and it is the favourite pastime of many Malaysians to lepak there for a temporary respite from our heat. If you can typically be found at the mall on weekends, you probably have a list of favourites you like to visit although you’re spoilt for choice (mine is Pavilion although I can’t afford anything there). X user @slainthayer took things to the next level by visiting all 175 malls in the Greater Klang Valley, and making a tier list from best to worst.
According to Slainthayer, they used the term Greater Klang Valley (technically known as the National Growth Conurbation), which “basically entails KL, most of Selangor (except Sabak Bernam and 1/2 of Kuala Selangor), but also includes Seremban and Port Dickson.”
He divided the 175 malls by local council:
KL - 75
Petaling Jaya - 21
Subang Jaya - 15
Shah Alam - 13
Klang - 8
Kuala Langat - 2
Putrajaya - 2
Sepang - 8
Kajang - 10
Ampang Jaya - 8
Selayang - 2
Kuala Selangor - 1
Seremban - 9
Port Dickson - 1
Now from there, how many malls are there?
I'll divide it by local council:
KL - 75
Petaling Jaya - 21
Subang Jaya - 15
Shah Alam - 13
Klang - 8
Kuala Langat - 2
Putrajaya - 2
Sepang - 8
Kajang - 10
Ampang Jaya - 8
Selayang - 2
Kuala Selangor - 1
Seremban - 9
Port Dickson - 1— Slainthayer (@slainthayer) February 18, 2024
He then ranked them according to tier with the following letters:
S tier - Best mall, period. The go-to mall for everyone: local and tourists. A tier - Best regional mall. The go-to mall for locals within a 10km radius.
B tier - Decent regional mall or good neighbourhood mall. Go-to mall for locals within a 2km radius.
C tier - An ok mall. Default ranking if it doesn't stand out as a mall (good or bad).
D tier - Bad mall because something is missing/wrong with the mall.
E tier - 'Mati segan hidup tak mahu' mall (too shy to die, no life left in it)
F tier - 'I'm surprised there are still shops here' level of dead mall.
Check out the image below for his ranking:

Note, some mistakes in his image include:
- Sanctuary being an E tier and Quayside is an A tier instead.
- City One should be D tier and Campbell should be C tier
- He also mentioned that The Curve should be -C tier instead of D tier.
Meanwhile, the worst on the list are 1 Shamelin, Cheras Sentral, Endah Parade, Evolve Concept Mall, Glo Damansara, Shaftsbury, Space u8, Viva. Admittedly, I’ve never even heard of any of these except Glo Damansara.
Twitter user @saralalala_ said that she was sad for The Curve, which “used to be a really nice indoor-outdoor mall before Covid hit.” This writer agrees. Cries*.
Wait why ioi city mall isn't in top list? Anyway, am still sad for the curve. That place was a really nice indoor-outdoor mall before Covid hits. We need more outdoors...
Btw, u missed lowyat (since digital mall is there), plaza arkadia...— Sara Razz (@saralalala_) February 18, 2024
Another user @Ned0098 said that 1Shamelin was a place for only four purposes: Diva Karaoke, the movies, badminton, and snooker, with nothing much to shop for there.
1shamelin tu empat tempat jer orang pergi nokkk,
1. Diva Karaoke
2. Wayang
3. Badminton
4. Snooker
Takde benda nk dishopping dalam tu ??— Ned (@Ned0098) February 18, 2024
With the recent addition of TRX The Exchange, user @terpalingcyber said that they hoped that the upcoming Merdeka 118 would be the last new mall on the S tier.
User @ByJasonNg commented, “Some of these malls shouldn’t even be built in the first place. Leasing those space to food trucks might even bring in more money.”Harap Merdeka 118 mall tu yang terakhir la untuk S class mall
