As I shifted to working from home in mid-2022, I quickly found that a normal wooden chair for work just wouldn’t cut it because it gave me an achy breaky back (my body just stopped working after the age of 25).

Naturally, I started scouting around for an office chair and even tried out a relative’s pricey ergonomic chair, but I still ached all over after using it all day. I went to check out multiple gaming chairs at the mall, but most of them—which cost almost RM1k (out of my budget as a B40)—seemed to have bad quality and looked like the leather would peel off quickly.

TTRacing Swift X 2020 Air Threads Fabric Gaming Chair

Then I came across TTRacing’s ads online. I’d never heard of the brand before but after asking a few friends who were gamers, it seemed to be a renowned brand known for its quality paired with value-for-money chairs. I decided on the TTRacing Swift X 2020 Air Threads Fabric Gaming Chair in fabric upholstery in a light grey shade which costs RM579 (original price RM799, but there is usually an offer ongoing). It came with a free Spider-Man Memory Foam Lumbar pillow which is worth RM119).

My reason for opting for fabric instead of PU leather is that in our humid climate, I don’t want my erm, butt to get sweaty after a full day of work as I don’t have the air-conditioning on all the time. If you are choosing a chair in an air-conditioned room, then that shouldn’t be an issue for you. I also didn’t choose black because of…mosquitoes. Again, this wouldn’t be a problem in an air-conditioned room away from sunlight.

I’ve been using it for 20 months now and I’m very happy with the chair. It features Air Threads Fabric Upholstery which is breathable and suffice it to say my rear end has never felt hot in it. It also has a 165-degree full recline so I use it when I relax and video call my pals after a long day of work (are you reading this, boss? Editor"s Note: yes, also, please note that relaxing and calling friends are against the company rulebook, thx). It goes down low (cue Flo Rida voice) and it has never tipped over yet because of its nifty full-tilt mechanism.

The round tension controller can even be rotated clockwise or anticlockwise to tighten or loosen rocking tensions. Bonus, its steel frame structure comes with a lifetime warranty in case you’re worried about it snapping one day.

TTRacing Duo V4 Grogu Edition

When I saw the TTRacing Duo V4 Grogu Edition (RM529) online, it was too cute to resist and I was looking for a chair in another room in my house. I reached out to TTRacing and their team kindly provided me with the chair.

Note that the standard Duo V4 chair without the Grogu design is priced at RM429, but I think that the extra RM100 is well worth it because it’s an officially licensed product from Star Wars.

Even the box the chair came in was sooo cute, I couldn’t wait to put it together. Note that you have to assemble it yourself, I timed it, and it took about an hour. You’ll probably need someone to help you as the parts are quite heavy to hold up but it’s easy enough to do by yourself.

These are all the parts that came in the box. You may also get a free TTRacing Thermo Flask on a first-come, first-served basis.

The instructions were clear and much better illustrated compared to the previous instruction manual I got. Just make sure you put the full-tilt mechanism the right way because I got it wrong and had to do it again.

Design

The drawing card of this chair is obviously Grogu, or Baby Yoda from the Star Wars Disney+ original television series The Mandalorian. I saw some comments on Facebook of buyers being concerned about stains on the armchair with pastel tones, but I think this should be fine as long as you don’t eat at your table. It also has beige accents rather than white so it shouldn’t turn yellow even after a few years.

This is how the chair looks after you put it together with the words ‘Wanted for being too cute’ on the back. So kawaii!

This is what the chair looks like side by side with my dining chair. It doesn’t take up much space which is great if you have a small room or space. Its padded armchair is made with industrial-grade polypropylene which means they’re built to last and my arms rest comfortably on them as well.

Here is a close-up of the details. The light beige part is velour (I mistook it for suede) which makes it soft to the touch. The stitching is well done and makes the chair look like it’s worth more than its actual price of RM529.

There are small touches which make the chair cool including a bona fide Star Wars label.

The seat features a celestial design with stars with slightly shiny thread which is a nice touch and alludes to the ‘galaxy far, far away’. The seat base is wide, and I can sit cross-legged on it like a true Asian with ease. The Air Threads Fabric it is made from is also, most importantly, breathable and doesn’t feel stuffy. It also has SeatfitTM technology in its seat base, which means it has a thick foam cushion and it won’t wear out easily even after heavy use.

The chair does allow you to adjust it up and down with an elevation of up to 8cm. It comes with heavy-duty PU casters (its wheels) which rotate 360 degrees and they glide effortlessly across my tiles without leaving any dreaded skid marks. These work well enough for me but TTRacing also allows you to customise your casters if you want some which are ultra-smooth and look like rollerblades.

Drawbacks

The drawback about this chair though is that you can’t recline in and although it claims to have a 135-degree tilt, it only tilts backwards very slightly for me.

The armrests are also non-adjustable, but these are covered in fabric and feel much more comfortable than the plastic ones on the Swift X 2020 Air Threads Fabric Gaming Chair.

However, the seat feels much more solid compared to my previous chair. In fact, I have a physiotherapist who comes to my house for health reasons, and after comparing the two, she also recommended that I sit on the Duo V4 for better back support.

To compare the two, the Swift X 2020 Air Threads Fabric Gaming Chair almost reaches the top of my head seated (I’m 164cm) while the Duo V4 reaches to my neck.

Duo V4 Grogu Edition

Reclines 165 degrees

Firmer support

Adjustable armrest

More comfortable armrests

Doesn’t take up as much space

Overall, it depends on what you are looking for. If you want a chair to chill in and work, go for the former. If you want one with more support, go for the Duo V4, but honestly, you can’t go wrong with either. Every time a visitor comes to my house, they’re pretty awed by how nice the chairs look, their quality, and their affordable price in comparison to others on the market.

If you are a Star Wars fan, you can also check out other items in the collection such as their gaming floorpads, DAX mat, and this awesome Maxx Gaming Chair which is limited to 600 units and goes for a cool RM1,399.
