OPPO Find X8 Pro Review: A Game-Changer in Smartphone Photography
In November this year, OPPO globally launched its all-new Find X8 (RM3,699) and Find X8 Pro (RM4,999) smart devices. Both of these devices featured OPPO's latest Hasselblad Master Camera System. With AI Telescope Zoom, the Find X series is claimed to be able to zoom further than before (10x and beyond).
We got the opportunity to try out the Find X8 Pro, and here's what we think:

Overall design

Initially, we weren't sure about the placement and the sheer size of the four cameras at the back of the phone. But we do note that although the camera took up quite a lot of space, it doesn't bump out as much.
According to data from OPPO Labs, the Find X8 Pro’s quad-camera bump has been reduced by about 40% compared to its predecessor. Now at 3.58mm, the camera bump still feels comfortable, especially when holding the phone sideways while watching Netflix or playing games.
Despite its large 6.78-inch display, this phone feels quite thin and compact. At just 8.24 mm thick and 215 grams, it is a joy to handle and use, even with one hand.
Additionally, the OPPO Find X8 Pro is both IP68 and IP69 certified. The first one means it can withstand being submerged in 1.5m of water for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, the IP69 can withstand jet sprays of water up to 80 Celcius.

Colour options and buttons

The OPPO Find X8 Pro offers two colour options: Space Black and Pearl White. We tried out the white version, and we had to give OPPO a mark for the pearlescent shimmer. It looks and feels exclusive, and we love how smooth it feels.
OPPO added that thanks to their multi-layer texture, no two Pearl White phones look the same.
The phone has a few buttons. On the left side, there's an alert slider to toggle between ring, vibrate, and silent modes.
The Quick Button on the right side of the phone makes it easier to zoom in and out and allows users to take photos by tapping the button. However, in terms of whether this Quick Button is a total game changer, it's a nice additional feature.

Performance & battery life

The OPPO Find X8 Pro comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset. It also arrives with a 5910mAH Silicon Carbon Battery, which is quite big. We tested out how long it lasts by watching Netflix and found that the battery drains about 5% per hour. Quite impressive, in our opinion.
In terms of battery life, this phone lasts about a day and a half on 100% battery, and usage includes gaming, Netflix, and doom-scrolling on social media.
When it comes to charging with the provided 80w charger, it took us about an hour to charge the OPPO Find X8 Pro from 14%.

Camera & AI features

The Find X series' camera system is a major feature. The Find X8 Pro is equipped with four 50MP cameras, including two telephoto cameras.
Photo taken using 0.6x
The photos taken with this device turn out beautifully in terms of image quality. We love how the colours pop without being unrealistic.
Zooming at 60x
This device's zooming power is also exceptional. It boasts a zoom range of up to 120x and produces great photos when taken from 0.6x.
The OPPO Find X8 Pro comes with many AI features, mostly for photo editing. There's Clarity Enhance, which upscales your photos; AI Eraser, which helps you erase people or objects in the background of your photos; AI Unblur; and AI Reflection Remover.
The red arrows on the left photo show unwanted objects, and the right photo shows the result of editing using the OPPO Find X8 Pro AI Eraser.
As content creators, we find these features extremely helpful, especially when we want to edit photos on the go without having to visit a third-party website.

Display

The OPPO Find X8 Pro has a sharp 1264 x 2780 panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, and at 6.78 inches, this is large for what a phone screen needs to be. However, the large screen is undoubtedly great for watching videos and playing games.
Although the Find X8 Pro's display isn’t the highest resolution on the market, it’s certainly enough to make images and video look razor-sharp and pretty bright and vibrant, thanks to its 800 nits of brightness in typical use with an absolute maximum of 4500 nits. We found that the phone was reasonably bright and used normally, and we never found ourselves struggling to read the display while outside.

Conclusion

As someone working in the field where taking photos and videos is the norm, we praise OPPO for the superb quality of the Find X8 Pro's camera and its AI features
However, we feel the price of RM4,999 is quite steep, even though it has some impressive features. In comparison, when we tried the OPPO Find X8, we personally thought it was much more affordable in terms of pricing (RM3,699).
When comparing these two, we found that the OPPO Find X8 shares almost the same features as its counterpart, with the exception of a smaller LCD (6.59”), a smaller battery (5630mAh), and the lack of AI Telescope Zoom. But, the OPPO Find X8 does comes with an extra colour, Shell Pink.
